Google just announced that it will launch new Android One smartphones in Philippines in coming weeks. Google launched Android One smartphones in India back in September last year. It expanded to Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka last month and to Indonesia earlier this month. Philippines becomes the sixth country to get Android One smartphones officially. Samsung has announced the Galaxy Tab Active tablet for India at the Samsung Forum in Bangkok. It is the company’s first rugged Galaxy tablet with anti-shock covering that can withstand a 1.2-meter drop, with the protective cover on. It has 8.0-inch WXGA displays, powered by 1.2 quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It is also water and dust resistant with IP67 certification. It got priced at Rs. 28,900 for the 16GB WiFi variant and Rs.44,900 for the 32GB LTE variant on the Google Play Store in India soon after. With more and more smartphones released on the market each year, it becomes even more difficult for a handset to stand out from the competition. Some manufacturers have attempted to attract customers using specialist software and hardware features – like the S Pen on the Galaxy Note 4 – but for others, standing out has been difficult and we’ve seen many companies struggle to make their mark.

In the case of Russian company Yota, they saw an opportunity to show that e-ink displays – which have been present on eReaders for a while now – could also be used in a smartphone and whilst the YotaPhone was designed like a wedge, the YotaPhone 2 aims to be different by offering a Full colour display and a unique e-ink display all in one smartphone.
