Xolo has launched ZX, as it had promised. It has a 6.22-inch HD+ Notch Display with 2.5D curved Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, is powered by MediaTek Helio P22 SoC with AI Gaming Mode that allocates additional GPU resources during gaming sessions and provides a disturbance free gaming experience with up to 6GB of RAM, has a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-tone LED flash along with a secondary 5-megapixel camera with AI focus. Software is not mentioned, so it is not clear if it runs Android Pie.
After the launch of Era 5X earlier this month, Xolo has announced that it will launch a new mid-range smartphone dubbed as ZX on Amazon.in. It will feature a 6.22-inch HD+ notch display, powered by an Octa-Core 12nm processor, which should be MediaTek Helio P22, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, 13MP + 5MP dual rear cameras, 16MP front camera, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone in 0.23 seconds and face unlock for 0.9-second unlock.

The main highlight of the smartphone is its 13-megapixel front camera with LED flash and AI studio mode with sudio lighting modes like the iPhone. It has a 13-megapixel rear camera, features 5.7-inch HD+ screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 Protection, is powered by MediaTek Helio A22 12nm Quad-Core SoC with 3GB of RAM and has Dual plate graphite layer to reduce heat. XOLO made a comeback recently to announce two new devices in New Delhi, targeting the budget segment of the smartphone market. The XOLO Era 4X which has an HD+ display and a front facing flash, along with some AI bokeh features, starts at Rs. 4,444 for the 1 GB RAM variant while the 2 GB RAM variant comes with an additional Face unlock feature. I had went hands on with it at the event and now the 2 GB RAM variant has arrived for testing and here are my first impressions.

Where are the Indian smartphone manufacturers these days? Where have they gone? This question has been on my mind for a while. Brands like Micromax and Yu, Lava and XOLO have largely disappeared from the scene this past year or two. Our market is inundated with devices from Chinese manufacturers like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Huawei, Taiwanese brands like ASUS and even Vietnamese brands like Mobiistar. Sure, there is an exception in Smartron, but largely, the Indian brands were nowhere to be seen in 2018.
When XOLO invited me to their event, conveniently titled “A new era” where they launched two new devices, I was pleasantly surprised. Before checking the devices out, I had a quick chat with Sunil Raina from XOLO and I’d like to share what I thought about XOLO’s comeback and what it tells us about Indian manufacturers.

After a year-long hiatus, Xolo is back with a new budget smartphone, Era 4X. It has a 5.45-inch HD+ screen with a 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass protection, run Android 8.1 (Oreo), feature an 8-megapixel rear and a 5-megapixel front camera, both with LED flash, Dual 4G VoLTE and a 3000mAh battery. It doesn’t have a fingerprint sensor, but comes with face unlock for the 2GB RAM version. Xolo today launched Era 3X, the company’s latest budget smartphone and the successor Era 2X. It also introduced cheaper Era 3 and Era 2V smartphones. All these phones have a 5-inch HD screen, are powered by Quad-core MediaTek MT6737 SoC and run Android 7.0 (Noguat). All these have moonlight flash on the front for capturing better selfies in low lighting conditions.

Xolo launched its Era 2X budget 4G smartphone in the Era series with 4G VoLTE support earlier this year. Now it has received a price cut. The Xolo Era 2X 2GB RAM version that was launched for Rs. 6666 has received a Rs. 444 price cut and is available for Rs. 6222, while the 3GB RAM version that was launched for Rs. 7499 now costs Rs. 6777 after receiving a price cut of Rs. 722. Xolo has always been a bit slow to adopt the latest specifications, opting for a more refined and well-rounded experience. The company recently launched their first smartphone equipped with a fingerprint scanner. Xolo launched Era 2, an affordable smartphone with 4G VoLTE support back in October last year. Now it has sent an invite for the launch of Era 2X on January 5th. It has also started teasing the smartphone on its social channels. It also said that the smartphone will go on sale exclusively on Flipkart on January 9th.
