Airtel Wi-Fi Calling launched in more circles, now supports more devices, works on non-Airtel broadband connection

Last month Airtel rolled out Voice over Wi-Fi services officially starting from Delhi NCR, later it expanded to Mumbai, Kolkata,Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Today the company has launched Wi-Fi Calling in Kerala, Gujarat, UP (West), Maharashtra, UP (East), Punjab, Haryana and Madhya Pradesh. Previously it was compatible only with Airtel Xstream Fiber home broadband, now it works with all broadband services and Wi-Fi hotspots, even though the site still says it works only on Airtel broadband. Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro rugged smartphone with 6.3-inch FHD+ display, dual rear cameras, Android 10 surfaces

Looks like Samsung is gearing up to introduce a new rugged smartphone as the images and Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro (SM-G715F) have surfaced. As usual this should be water resistant to a depth of 1.5m for up to 30 minutes with IP68 certification, dust proof, come with US Military Standard MIL-STD 810G to withstand a fall of up to 1.2 meters and features “Push To Talk” button with support for quick messages. Lenovo announces Legion Y740S its thinnest ever gaming laptop, eGPU enclosure, gaming monitors and more at CES 2020

Legion, Lenovo’s line of gaming focused products has made a few announcements at CES 2020. These include their thinnest ever Legion Gaming laptop called the Legion 740s, their external GPU enclosure called the Legion Booststation, a 240Hz Legion gaming monitor and bunch other peripherals like keyboards and mice.

Redmi Note 8 Pro gets a new Twilight Orange color variant

Xiaomi’s Redmi brand launched the Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone last year in Gamma Green, Halo White and Shadow Black colors, and the Electric Blue version of the phone went on sale later. Today it has introduced new Twilight Orange color variant of the phone in China. It has also introduced Red color version of the Redmi 8 in China, which is already available in India. Amazfit has announced T-Rex, the company’s first outdoor smartwatch at the CES 2020, as it had promised. It has passed 12 regulations of the military-standard (MIL-STD-810G) quality test and can withstand extreme heat and cold, is resistant against corrosion, moisture resistance and has a durable body. It has heat resistance of 70℃, resistance to severe cold of minus 40℃, has passed 240-hour damp heat test, and 96-hour acid-alkali test. Reliance Jio starts rolling out VoWiFi service in Delhi and Chennai

Recently, Airtel started testing WiFi Calling (VoWiFi) in several cities in India and later officially launched the service. Following Airtel’s launch, Reliance Jio has now started rolling out WiFi Calling facility in Chennai and Delhi-NCR. This comes after the testing began in Delhi recently. The company is yet to launch the VoWiFi services in the country officially.

Qualcomm introduces aptX Voice audio codec for HD voice calls through Bluetooth

Smartphone manufacturers have been improving the voice quality on smartphones through better hardware every time to offer the best voice quality experience to users. In the past, brands like Xiaomi have also experimented with Cantilever piezoelectric ceramic acoustic system instead of an earpiece. Although the voice call quality also depends on the network, the quality of the voice calls made through Bluetooth accessories is not there yet. Now, Qualcomm’s new aptX voice codec aims to solve this issue and this comes after the introduction of aptX and aptX HD technologies for music streaming previously.

MediaTek Dimensity 800 7nm Octa-Core SoC with built-in 5G for mid-range devices announced

MediaTek just announced Dimensity 800, the company’s latest SoC in the Dimensity series with built-in 5G, as it had promised. This comes after Dimensity 1000 that was introduced back in November last year. The Dimensity uses 7nm process technology, same as the Dimensity 1000, but this features four Cortex-A76 cores operating up to 2GHz and four power-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores operating at up to 2.0GHz. The company just says Dimensity 1000-class GPU, combined with MediaTek gaming technology – HyperEngine without revealing the GPU model. After teasing the phone, OnePlus has officially announced OnePlus Concept One, the company’s first concept phone at CES 2020. This is the first phone to use color-shifting glass technology (electrochromic glass technology), allowing it to change transparency and giving it an ‘invisible camera.’, says the company. HONOR MagicWatch2 with Kirin A1 chipset, HONOR Band 5i with built-in USB connector launching soon on Amazon India

HUAWEI’s HONOR brand announced its MagicWatch 2, the successor to the MagicWatch recently and the company is all set to launch its smartwatch in India soon. Alongside the MagicWatch 2, HONOR is also launching the ‘HONOR Band 5i’, which is an upgrade to the HONOR Band 5 that was launched last year. Both the products are expected to be unveiled alongside the HONOR 9X next week.

Nokia 7 Plus Android 10 update starts rolling out

HMD Global has started rolling out Android 10 update for the Nokia 7 Plus smartphone, which makes it the fifth Nokia phone to get the update after the Nokia 8.1 in October, and Nokia 9 PureView and Nokia 7.1 last month, and Nokia 6.1 Plus yesterday. It was launched in 2018 running Android Oreo, and got the Pie update in September 2018. Android 10 brings number of additional privacy and security features for users, as well as Dark Theme, Smart Reply, Focus mode, dedicated ‘Privacy section’, and lots more.
