The number of Internet users in India will hit 302 million by December 2014, registering a Y-o-Y growth of 32% over last year, revealed a latest report from the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB International.

UberGO cheaper version of UberX launched in India

UberGo

Uber has launched UberGO, a low-cost Uber service cheaper than the UberX in India. Uber entered India last year with its UberBLACK service and launched its UberX service back in June. The base fare for UberGO is just Rs.20 or Rs. 40 depending on the city. Rate per minute and kilometer are also cheaper in UberGO compared to UberX. It is now available in all the 10 cities where Uber is operational, across India that includes, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Chennai, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, New Delhi and Pune. Yahoo to become default search engine for Firefox in the U.S.

Mozilla has announced that it is replacing its default search engine from Google to Yahoo in the U.S. The company has entered into a five year partnership with Yahoo to be the default search engine on mobile and desktop.

O2 launches data sharer plans for individuals and families

O2 has followed in the footsteps of its rival networks and today has launched data sharer plans for individuals and families in the UK. The new plans, which start at £6 per month, offer up to 8GB data which can be shared across multiple devices or between family members. The Sharer Plan and Family Sharer Plan uses a customer’s data bundle and allows them to share it either across multiple devices and smart technology or between devices owned by different members of the family. Online giant Amazon spells trouble for UK Royal Mail growth

Royal Mail on Wednesday warned  that online giant Amazon’s own delivery service and increased competition from rival couriers has hampered progress and impacted revenues. The former state-owned British company said that Amazon’s plans to launch their own delivery service would cut the growth in the British parcel market for it and its rivals from 4-5 percent down to 1-2 percent. Ofcom repurposes 700MHz digital TV spectrum for mobile

Ofcom has begun repurposing some TV spectrum in the UK for use with mobile services in a bid to free up unused spectrum and increase the allowance available to UK consumers. The regulator today said it would make the 700MHz spectrum, currently used for digital terrestrial television, available for mobile broadband use by 2022. A day after Nokia introduced its N1 tablet, Jolla has announced the Jolla Tablet with a similar 2048 x 1536 display. Jolla has taken Indiegogo route for crowdfunding to develop the tablet. In terms of specifications, the Jolla tablet has a 7.89-inch (2048 × 1536 pixels) display at 330 ppi, powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core Intel Atom processor and runs on Jolla Sailfish OS 2.0.
