Meizu MX4 Pro with 5.5-inch (2560 x 1536) display, Octa-Core Exynos 5430 SoC announced

Meizu announced MX4 Pro, the company’s latest flagship smartphone recently after several rumors. It has a 5.5-inch (2560 x 1536) IPS display with 546 ppi pixel density, more than Quad HD or 2K resolution. It uses NEGA negative LCD panel with LED backlight that promises better quality images and less battery consumption. It is powered by a Octa-Core Exynos 5430 processor (ARM cortex®-A15 2.0GHz x 4 + Cortex A7 1.5GHz x 4) and runs on Flyme OS 4.1. Samsung Gear S vs Samsung Gear Live Photo Gallery

Samsung announced the Gear S smartwatch in August and it went on sale  in India earlier this month for Rs 27,900. We have already seen the unboxing and the photo gallery of the smartwatch and also went handson with it at IFA Berlin. Now lets compare the smartwatch to Samsung Gear Live that was announced at Google I/O conference in June. It launched in India in July for Rs 15,900.

The Gear S runs on company’s homegrown OS Tizen. It sports a 2 inch (360 x 480 pixels) curved Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1GHz Dual-Core processor. While the Gear Live runs on Android Wear and has a 1.63 inch touchscreen with a 320×320 resolution and is powered by a 1.2 GHz processor. Both the smartwatches have 512MB RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

The Gear S has sensors like Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Ambient Light, UV, Barometer. On the other hand the Gear Live has a heart rate sensor, pedometer, Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass. Both the devices are IP67 Certified for dust and water resistance. Both the devices have the heart rate sensor and charging pins below the device. The Gear S comes with a built in SIM Card slot while the Gear Live does not have one.

The Gear S measure 23.4 x 57.4 x 11.95 mm and weighs 27g while the Gear Live is 8.9mm thick  and weighs over 60g. Both the devices have 300mAh battery. In terms of connectivity Gear S supports 3G and Bluetooth 4.1 while the Gear Live supports Bluetooth 4.0.

Gear S has a signature home button below the display and the ambient light sensor is present next to it and has a stainless steel body and blue, black and white changing straps. The Gear Live also comes with a stainless steel body and a usual rubbery strap.

Qualcomm has announced its new Gobi 9×45 fifth-generation Category 10 LTE cellular multimode modem that supports global Carrier Aggregation (CA) for download speeds of up to 450 Mbps, upload speeds of up to 100Mbps, and CA across the TDD and FDD spectrum, compared to 300Mbps download speeds in the 9×25, 9×30 and 9×35 Gobi modems. It is based on the second-generation 20nm technology node and supports up to 60 MHz 3x CA in the downlink and up to 40 MHz 2x CA in the uplink. Huawei and Russia’s MegaFon plan for 5G launch at 2018 World Cup

Huawei and Russian operator MegaFon have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the development of 5G technology with a view to a potential launch in time for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The MoU builds on a partnership between the two companies that stretches back to the deployment of GSM in 2002. The MoU is likely to mean 5G services could become available to participants and guests at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and as part of the MoU, the two companies will work together to plan, build and deploy 5G network infrastructure. Steve Unger takes over as Ofcom CEO

Steve Unger has been appointed as the new interim Chief Executive Officer set regulator Ofcom until the position is filled permanently in early 2015. Unger will replace Ed Richards, the current CEO, who has announced he is leaving his position at the end of the year. Unger, who holds a Master’s degree in Physics and a PhD in AstroPhysics, has previously held Director roles at Manet Telecom and the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes. Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro Benchmarks

Lenovo launched the Vibe Z2 Pro smartphone in India back in September . We reviewed the smartphone recently, here are the benchmarks of the Vibe Z2 Pro. It is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 801 28nm HPm Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.46 GHz with Adreno 330 GPU clocked at 578 MHz. It has a 6-inch ( 2560 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD display  and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat) OS with Vibe 2.0 UI on  top.  Several flagship smartphones have a Snapdragon 801 SoC, but very few smartphones feature a Quad HD display. Let’s check out the performance in a range of synthetic benchmark tests.
