Samsung announces Simband, a wearable open health platform

At the Voice of the Body event few hours back, Samsung announced Simband, an open hardware reference design for wearable technology, that has most advanced sensing technologies that could be used to track measurements such as heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure using the wrist-mounted band that has a modular array of sensors on the bottom. The Simband is being designed in a modular way, allowing for innovation in areas like battery life, form factor and noninvasive sensor technology, says Samsung.

Google Camera 2.2 update brings new panorama modes, timer and more

Google has started rolling out a new (v2.2) update for the Google Camera app for Android users that brings a lot of new features, including new panorama modes, option to set a timer, take a snap while shooting video and more. The company released the Google Camera, a standalone camera app for Android smartphones last month on Google Play that brought SLR-like Lens Blur mode. After releasing the Xolo A510s Lite, Xolo is all set to release new smartphones in its Q CORE series. The Xolo Q600s, successor of last year’s Q600 and the Xolo Q1200 are now available from online retailer Snapdeal. The Q600s would be the company’s first smartphone to run on Android 4.4 (KitKat). The company has already promised Android KitKat update for a range of older devices. With a 4.5-inch qHD display, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and 1GB RAM, this aims to compete with other budget smartphones like Moto EMicromax Unite 2 A106 and the Lava Iris X1. Apple to acquire Beats for $3 billion

After several reports, Apple today confirmed that it has agreed to buy Beats Music and Beats Electronics for a total of $3 billion. Beats co-founders Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre will join Apple along with their team of employees. Apple will pay $2.6 billion in cash and $400 million in stock. Intel joins hands with Rockchip to develop low-cost chips for Android tablets

In a bid to boost sales of low-end Android tablets, Intel has teamed up with Chinese mobile chipmaker Rockchip. Under the agreement, the chipmakers signed an agreement to jointly offer a quad-core processor and integrated modem called SoFIA, which will be available in the first half of 2015, said Intel in an official release.

These iPads would use ultra-fast Xi LTE service and also lets you choose new billing plans with data sharing among family members and corporate users. Microsoft to debut Skype Translator app with Real-Time Speech Translation by the end of 2014

In a bid to connect people from different continents with different language, Microsoft is bringing real-time speech translation functionality to Skype by the end of this year. The feature was demonstrated by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at Re/code’s Code Conference in the US.
