AT&T CEO says ‘Tremendous demand’ for free iPhone 3GS

AT&T noted that it sold a gross of 4.8 million smartphones in the interim of the third quarter, 2.7 million of them being iPhone activations. Highly astounding for a phone, that was released in June, 2009. After the debut of the iPhone 4S, Apple proclaimed that the 3GS was free with an AT&T contract and that the iPhone 4 would plummet to $99 with a contract.

Our friends in US are pre-ordering a 4G / WiMax Phone – the HTC EVO 4G.  In India , we still don’t have widespread 3G coverage. 3G services are being offered by only BSNL and MTNL currently and auctions for private players are hopefully starting in April.

Many users in India are already carrying a 3G capable device thanks to handset makers  like Nokia and the likes. But most of those users cannot use the 3G feature on the phone here. It’s simply irrelevant. Adding insult to injury is the launch of the iPhone 3GS on the nation’s largest GSM operator Airtel who has a 2.5G or 2.75G network. Nexus One vs iPhone 3GS 3D Performance Comparison

The folks at a game development company Distinctive Developments have posted a cool video comparison of the Nexus One and iPhone 3GS.  In the video they compare the 3D performance (GPU -Graphics Processing Unit) of the two phones. They render the same game scenes on both the phones and test the frame rate and graphics. As you can see in the image below, the 3GS is doing 60 frames per second and the Nexus One is doing 31 frames per second.

Telkomsel to launch iPhone 3GS in Indonesia from Jan 2010

iPhone 3G S is all set to debut in Indonesia from Jan 2010 via Telkomsel.

The Pricing is not available yet. However the current “clearance price” of iPhone 3G 16GB is IDR 7.5 million (US$750), which includes a 12 month 500MB data package (worth IDR125,000 or around US$12 per month).
