What will Nokia launch at an International Press Event on May 9th in India ?

It has been while since Nokia has held any major press event in India especially an international press event which it is holding in New Delhi tomorrow May 9th. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is expected to unveil new products at the event. The invite says “Time to Shift Gears” and does not mention anything else. Considering this event is taking place in India ,  it would be safe to assume that we could either see a low-end Lumia device or new member of the Asha family being announced. In fact Elop has confirmed that Nokia would launch new Asha devices at the company’s annual general meeting held recently. So new Asha phones are surely coming. UC Web announces partnership with Trend Micro for in-browser mobile web safety assessment

Over at the Global Mobile Internet Conference, UCWeb has announced a new partnership with global internet security expert, Trend Micro. Under the agreement, both companies will work to provide mobile web safety assessments in the browser. The aim is provide a comprehensive safety net for users of the product via cloud based security scans in the browser and also for Android apps downloaded via the UC Web browser.

Trend Micro analyzes as much as 4.46TB of data every day and has identified 350,000 high risk Android applications. This number is further expected to grow by 400% to 1.4 million in 2013.

UC Web with a global userbase in excess of 400 million and with 200 million daily registered clicks aims to provide comprehensive cloud based security for its users through its partnership with Trend Micro. The technology in question is Trend Micro’s Application Reputation Service (MARS) that works with both websites and Android applications. The service has analyzed close to 3 million Android apps to date with about 560,000 of them being flagged as malicious. UC Web has added the feature to version 7.4 of its browser making it the world’s first ‘secure mobile browser’.Considering the browser’s popularity in developing markets, the move is a welcome addition. Oppo Find 5 Unboxing

The Oppo Find 5 was announced back in December 2012 and we did get our sweet short hands-on time with this device with jaw-dropping looks. It is a great looking phone which is solidly built and has powerful internals and an excellent display and priced very reasonably. The package is very well designed and premium and we felt like we were dealing with an expensive piece of jewellery or an high-end electronic device.

World’s smallest dual axis OIS gyroscope for smartphones introduced by InvenSense

If the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC One are anything to go by then optical image stabilization are all set to become standard features in smartphones over the next year or two. The deterrent so far has been the size of the MEMS gyroscopes which don’t allow ultra slim phones. InvenSense intends to change by introducing the world’s smallest dual axis gyroscope for optical image stabilization in smartphones

We were at the Samsung Galaxy S4 India launch event held at a pretty interesting location , the Kingdom of Dreams in Gurgaon near Delhi. Here are some photos and a short video we put together from the launch event for your viewing pleasure.Samsung called the event “Galaxy S3 World Tour 2013 India”. The presentation was not as crazy as the unpacked event in New York but close enough with a Bollywood style dance performance with a couple of dancers coming out from the ceiling ! Android 4.3 Jelly Bean might be announced at Google I/O

While we all wait with baited breath for Google to announce the next generation of Android at its annual Google I/O event, it turns out we might be in for a bit of disappointment. Rumors have surfaced that the next update will still be a part of the Jelly Bean family.

Android build numbers traditionally start with the letters of the variant. So, Android Key Lime Pie based OS builds will have the K suffix. The folks over at Android Police have discovered server logs and reports that detail an OS build showing Android  4.3 JWR23B which means that it is based on Jelly Bean. With a bit of IP tracing it has been discovered that the build numbers were from the Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 coming from Google employees. Celkon, known for its cheap value for money Android phones, including its new A119 Signature HD that we reviewed recently, has been spotted of selling its new low end Android device, the Celkon A62 on Snapdeal. The device comes with a huge 4.7 inch screen, with a resolution of 854×480 pixels. While it may not sound really exciting, we must remind you that it costs Rs. 6,799/- which is probably one of the few devices that have a huge screen at this price.

Facebook Home crosses 500,000 downloads

Facebook has been trying to make its mark in the mobile segment for a while now with both hardware partnerships and software based offerings. Its latest attempt, Facebook Home, has been downloaded over 500,000 times within the span of a week. The application works as a replacement homescreen, lockscreen and app launcher with a heavy focus on Facebook content. This number pales in comparison to Instagram which brought in 1 million downloads in under 24 hours.

Samsung Galaxy S4 likely to launch in India on April 27th at around Rs.40000

The Samsung Galaxy S4 might be coming to India as soon as April 27th. The Korean smartphone giant is gearing up to launch the Galaxy S4 in several countries across the world on April 26-27th. Samsung launched the much anticipated successor to the Galaxy S3 at a launch event in New York City last month . India is a key market for Samsung and would be getting the flagship Android device pretty soon. The S4 features a 5 inch display , quad-core or octa-core processor (depending on the market), Android 4.2.2 , 13 Megapixel camera, 2600 mAh battery and many other interesting features.

ZTE GEEK with Intel Atom Z2580 Clover Trail+ debuts at IDF

Over at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, ZTE has announced its first phone powered by the new 32nm Intel Atom Z2580 processor. The Clover Trail+ platform delivers performance that is twice as fast as the platform that it replaces in terms of computing power. The GPU core is three times faster and Intel has focussed on reducing power consumption.

We took it for a spin on our Google Nexus 4, and found it to be quite buggy, but using the UI for the first time was a fresh experience. So, what do we think about the Facebook home? Facebook just announced their Facebook Home Android product and only select HTC and Samsung devices will be getting it initially. The Samsung Galaxy S3 , Galaxy Note 2 and HTC OneX+ are existing devices which are supported.The HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 are new devices which will be compatible with the app. Facebook  put rumors about a Facebook phone or an forked Android OS with the launch of this app.

Quickoffice for Android and iOS now available for Google Apps for Business users

Back in June 2012, Google had acquired Quickoffice to strengthen its mobile productivity suite offerings. The company has now rolled out the application to Google Apps for Business customers. The application has already been available on the iPad but now Google and iPhone users too can edit Microsoft Office files using the application on their devices.
