Nvidia Project Shield now available for pre-order, priced at $349

Nvidia’s Project Shield is a unique take on a portable gaming console that combines the power of Android with streaming technology to offer both mobile and triple A console class titles on a single platform.

Project-Shield-2

The Shield is powered by a Tegra 4 processor clubbed with 2GB of RAM which should provide a potent combo for Android based gaming. The screen on the unit is a 5 inch panel with a resolution of 1280×720 that might appear a bit antiquated but is by no account unusable. The console has 16GB of built in storage that can be expanded via the microSD slot. Other specifications include built in GPS, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi with 2×2 Mimo.

Project-Shield-5

Nvidia has finally put Project Shield up on pre order at a price point of $349 that will certainly appear steep to some. The beauty of the ‘console’ lies in the fact that it offers a full Xbox style controller built in to allow you to play not just Android titles but also stream selected games from your PC. This allows you to play high definition PC games on your handheld no matter where you are. We went hands on with the Shield over at MWC and here are our Project Shield impressions.
