Microsoft confirms WP7 app compatibility with Windows Phone 8

Via a blog post , Microsoft’s Larry Lieberman reassured developers around the world and confirmed that all current Windows Phone apps will continue working with future versions of the fledgling operating system. Backwards compatibility is a sign of “commitment to the developers” according to Lieberman.

Airtel to launch 4G services in Kolkata this month, appoints ZTE to manage the network

Bharti Airtel is all set to launch 4G services in India later this month in Kolkata. Bharti Airtel’s CEO Sanjay Kapoor confirmed it in GSMA event in New Delhi. It would also be the first operator in the country to launch 4G services. It is based on 4G LTE-TDD technology that would offer speeds up to 100 Mbps.

Facebook for Every Phone app now available in 3 new languages, including Hindi

Facebook has launched the Facebook for Every Phone app in 3 new languages, Hindi, Malay and Vietnamese. The app was launched in 14 different languages initially last July. The app offers Facebook’s most popular features, including News Feed, Inbox, and Photos that works on more than 3600 Java-enabled phones around the world.

Microsoft scraps #SmokedByWindowsPhone challenge, offers credit instead

Two days before the end of the Smoked by Windows Phone challenge at the Microsoft stores , the company has changed the rules of the game and is instead offering store credit towards the purchase of a Windows Phone.

NFC-enabled handset shipments reach 30 million units in 2011

According to a report by research firm Berg Insight, global shipments of handsets featuring Near Field Communication (NFC) has reached 30 million units in 2011 from about 3 million units in 2010. With 87.8% increase annually, shipments are expected to reach 700 million in 2016.

Mundu Mobile TV app is now available for Windows Phone 7 devices as they announced last month. Their Symbian app clocked 5 million downloads on the Nokia Store last month and held its place as one of the top 10 free apps on the Nokia Store in just 11 months.
