Microsoft scraps #SmokedByWindowsPhone challenge, offers credit instead

Two days before the end of the Smoked by Windows Phone challenge at the Microsoft stores , the company has changed the rules of the game and is instead offering store credit towards the purchase of a Windows Phone.

The marketing campaign seems to have caught on so well that consumers are coming to deliberately lose the challenge and snag a free Windows Phone running device in exchange of their old phones. This has caused a large number of stores to run completely out of devices. Microsoft is instead offering credit worth $50-$300 in exchange for recycling your old device. $300 credit should let you purchase a Nokia Lumia 710 , Samsung Focus Flash or an HTC Radar as all of those come in under the 300 USD mark.
