Nokia Lumia 920 with Windows Phone 8, 4.5-inch Pure Motion HD+ display, PureView camera announced

 

Nokia has finally announced their first Windows Phone 8 device, the Lumia 920. It has a 4.5-inch (1280 × 768 pixels) Pure Motion HD+ IPS display and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor. It comes with an 8.7 MP auto focus camera with LED Flash optical imaging stabilization and Carl Zeiss optics Full 1080p HD video capture at 30fps and Nokia PureView camera technology, a 1.2MP 720p HD front-facing camera for video calling and Wireless charging capabilities based on the popular Qi wireless standard. Samsung Galaxy Note II gets priced in UK, coming in mid-October

Samsung Galaxy Note II has received a price tag in UK for the 16GB vesion. UK retailer Clove has announced that the Galaxy Note II would be available by mid-October. Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Note II at IFA last week. It packs in a 5.5-inch (1,280 x 720 pixels) HD Super AMOLED display, 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Samsung Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy Y Duos Lite launched in India for Rs. 17900 and Rs. 6990

Samsung has launched the Galaxy S Duos and the Galaxy Y Duos Lite, Dual SIM phones in India. The Galaxy S Duos was announced last month and the Galaxy Y Duos Lite would launch in some European countries as Galaxy Pocket Duos. The Galaxy S Duos comes with a 4.0-inch WVGA (480×800) capacitive touch screen display, 1 GHz processor. It runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). The Galaxy Y Duos Lite comes with similar features as the Galaxy Pocket, other than the Dual SIM (GSM + GSM) support. It has a 2.8-inch (240 x 320 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread). It is powered by a 832MHz processor and has a 2MP fixed focus camera at the back.

LG Optimus Vu coming to Verizon as LG Intuition on September 6 for $199.99

LG has released the Optimus Vu for Verizon Wireless in the USA as Intuition. It would have similar features as the Korean version including a 5-inch display with 4:3 Aspect Ratio and 650 nits brightness, 1.5 GHz Dual Core Snapdragon Processor, 4G LTE support, but would come with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on-board. Google Maps for Android gets Voice guided turn-by-turn Navigation and Live Traffic in India

Google has started rolling out 2 new features, Voice guided turn-by-turn Navigation and Live Traffic updates for the Google Maps for Android in India. The Voice guided turn-by-turn Navigation would be helpful while driving or walking. You can click the navigate button after you request for a destination. You can also turn the voice navigation off or select alternative routes. This feature was introduced back in 2009. Photos of iPhone 5 Battery in Rear Shell, Compared to iPhone 4S Battery

The battery for the next-generation iPhone has leaked many times in the past recent week. Today, repair firm iResQ has obtained batteries of the new iPhone and has posted new photos showing the iPhone’s rear shell and comparing the battery to an iPhone 4S battery.

The new iPhone’s battery runs at 3.8 volts. It is possible that the new iPhone’s battery is using new chemistry to increase the capacity to 5.45 watt-hours from the 3.7-volt 5.30 watt-hour battery used in the iPhone 4S. The comparison photos show that the new battery is slightly taller than the iPhone 4S. Thickness of the battery appears to be the same despite the fact that the new iPhone is rumored to be at least 15% thinner than the iPhone 4S.

Key differences between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4S battery:

1. The iPhone 5’s battery is slightly less than a half an inch taller than the iPhone 4S. The thickness appears to be identical.

2. The iPhone 5 is 3.8V/5.45Whr while the iPhone 4S is 3.7V/5.3Whr.

3. The connector on the iPhone 5 is not only different, it is placed on the opposite side of the battery to accomodiate its new position within the iPhone.

Apple is expected to introduce the new iPhone at next week’s media event, which was officially announced today.

Apple Announces Media Event for September 12th

Today, The Loop reports that Apple has sent out media invites to the press for an event next Wednesday, September 12th. Apple is expected to reveal the next-generation iPhone at this event.

The tagline on the invitations read “It’s almost here,” with a large number 12. Also, below the date of the event, there is a shadow that displays a number “5”. This would suggest that Apple will call the next-generation iPhone “iPhone 5”.

The event will be held next Wednesday at 10 AM Pacific/ 1 PM Eastern at the Yerba Buena Center for Arts in San Francisco, California.

Is this the nano SIM card for the iPhone 5 ?

We told you last year that a nano SIM card which is smaller than the already tiny microSIM card is in the works. Then there were rumours floating around that the next iPhone or the iPhone 5 would be using the nano SIM card slot.What followed was Apple, Nokia , RIM and Motorola defending for their own proposals at the industry standards body known as European Telecommunication Standards Institute ETSI . Micromax has launched Funbook Alpha (P250), their new tablet with a 7-inch (800 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display. It is powered by a 1 GHz processor with Dual Mali 400– the 2D/3D Graphics Processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). Winknet launched the MF50 3G Pocket Wi-Fi Router, earlier this month in India. It is manufactured by ZTE and has HSPA support up to 14.4 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload speeds. It has a LCD display, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n & WPS support that lets you connect up to 10 WiFi-enabled devices and comes with a 1500 mAh battery. Since it was originally launched in July for BSNL with bundled plans, the box has BSNL branding. Tata Docomo launched 3G Wi-Fi Hub last year at a similar price, but it offers download speeds only up to 7.2 Mbps and lets you share the connection only with 5 WiFi-enabled devices. Apple now controls more than 400 4G LTE patents, aims to protect itself from Samsung

The European Telecommunications Standards Institute, commonly referred to at ETSI, says that last year Apple had zero 4G LTE patents. This year, according to the Korea Intellectual Property Office, that number has now ballooned to 318 patents. And of those patents, only 44 of them were actually developed by Apple. The rest came via acquisitions from Nortel and Freescale. When you combine Apple’s 4G LTE patents with the 116 patents controlled by Rockstar Bidco, a patent troll in which Apple is the majority stakeholder, then the total number of patents in their portfolio jumps up to 434. That’s a little more than half the number of 4G LTE patents Samsung owns (819), but on the brighter side it’s also slightly more than what Huawei has (402).
