Xolo X500 benchmarks – Intel Atom Z2420 CPU and Power VR SGX540 GPU

Xolo X500 was launched in India last week. Here we have the benchmarks of the device. The Xolo X500 is powered by a 1.2 GHz Intel Atom Lexington Z2420 single-core processor with Power VR SGX540 GPU. The Xolo X900 that was launched in India last year is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2460 Medfield processor, but the new CPU is aimed at low-cost Android smartphones. Even the new chip has Intel’s hyper threading technology that offers better mutitasking capabilities. Let us see how it stacks up with the other Android smartphones. Nokia, Airtel top trusted brands in India yet again


Nokia is still India’s Most Trusted Brand, according to a recent survey conducted by research firm Trust Research Advisory (TRA). Nokia retains the first position from the Brand Trust Report 2011 and the Brand Trust Report 2012. Even Airtel retains the same No. 9 spot in the rank list for 3rd consecutive year. The Brand Trust Report, India Study, 2013 is the third in its series and this year the report lists India’s 1100 Most Trusted Brands from 211 categories. It comprises comprehensive primary research based on 61 attributes called the Brand Trust Matrix, conducted among 2505 influencer-respondents from 16 cities across the country. Spice Stellar Pinnacle Mi-530 with 5.3-inch IPS display, Android 4.0 officially launched for Rs. 13999

S Mobility has officially launched the Stellar Pinnacle Mi-530. It was listed on online retailer Saholic earlier this week. It has a 5.3-inch (960 × 540 pixels) IPS LCD display, powered by 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) which is upgradable to Jelly Bean. It has a 8 MP auto focus camera with LED Flash, 1080p HD video recording and a 5 MP front-facing camera. The company launched the Stellar Virtuoso Mi-495 with a 4.5-inch qHD display earlier this month. HTC Butterfly Review

The HTC Butterfly is the Taiwanese company’s first 5” smartphone. It stands on the border in between smartphone and phablet territory. However HTC markets this as a smartphone rather than a phablet.

When it’s classified as a phablet, it becomes a niche product with a smaller customer base. It is also one of the first smartphones to hit the market packing a full HD screen. Apple iPad 4 128GB version is out, priced at $799 for WiFi and $929 for Cellular version

Apple has officially announced the rumoured iPad 4 or iPad with Retina Display with 128GB of storage on board. The pricing is not a surprise and extends the current iPad pricing by $100. The WiFi only version of the iPad with 128GB of space will cost $799 and the WiFi + Cellular version will cost $929 making it the most expensive iPad ever. Whatsapp takes a breather after investigation of privacy violation by Canadian and Dutch authorities

California-based Whatsapp inc., the ubiquitous internet messaging service that rapidly became popular on all SmartPhone platforms has been facing privacy issues since its humble beginnings, but it was stepped up another notch when Dutch and Canadian privacy investigators found some disturbing violations relating to how Whatsapp handles the contacts library. However, once the investigation was over, with Whatsapp offering to fix some  flaws quickly, the issue seems to be partly resolved. But authorities say it is far from over, and there is more work to be done, from Whatsapp’s end.

Sierra Wireless sells AirCard business to Netgear for over $100 mn

In a surprising move , Netgear which is famous for its networking gear including wireless routers and switches has entered into the mobile data device market by acquiring the AirCard business from Canada based Sierra Wireless. I personally own a Sierra Wireless AirCard USB modem and a huge fan of the same. Sierra Wireless is huge in the US and offers USB modems and MiFis for AT&T ,  Sprint and Verizon Wireless

Micromax A54 Ninja 3.5 now available for Rs. 4590

Micromax A54 Ninja 3.5 is now available from online retailers Snapdeal and Flipkart in India. It has 3.5-inch (480 x 320 Pixels) capacitive touch screen display, has dual SIM support, runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) and has a 3MP rear camera similar to its predecessor, A57 Ninja 3.0 that was launched last year. Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 Hands-on

Lenovo showcased the IdeaTab S2110 at the International CES 2013 in Las Vegas earlier this month, and we got some hands-on time with the device. It has a 10.1-in IPS display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It is powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060A processor and has a 1.3M HD front-facing camera. Android tablets with a keyboard dock is already popular with the Asus Transformer tablet, and even this one from Lenovo includes a battery, USB 2.0 ports and a 3-in-1 card reader in the optional docking station.

HTC Butterfly launched in India for Rs. 45990

HTC has finally launched the Butterfly, their latest flagship Android Smartphone in India. It has a 5.0-inch Full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super LCD 3 display with 440ppi pixel density and Corning Gorilla Glass 2 protection, powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) with HTC Sense UI. HTC announced the Butterfly for global markets in December, and HTC India started teasing the launch of the phone on their Facebook page couple of weeks back. BlackBerry World for BlackBerry 10 to include Movies and DRM-free Music

RIM already announced that the new BlackBerry World Store would include Videos and Music section, now the company has detailed their partners, and the list of countries that would get them initially, just a day before the BlackBerry 10 launch. Music downloads would be available DRM-free for 18 countries including India, and the Movies and TV show downloads and rental would be initially available in US, UK and Canada. Nokia Lumia 710 price drops to Rs. 12999

Nokia has cut the price of the Lumia 710 to Rs. 12,999, few weeks before the Lumia 620 goes on sale in India. The Lumia 710 was launched in India for Rs. 19,000 along with the the Lumia 800.
