EE now has 7.7m 4G customers, 80% UK coverage

EE this morning announced that it has signed up 7.7 million 4G customers as it continues the rollout of its 4G network to towns and cities across the UK. The figures show that EE managed to increase its subscriber base by 5.7 million customers since the beginning of 2014 and its rollout continued with 210 new major towns and cities added in Q4 2014. Airtel starts Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G bookings

At the Redmi Note 4G launch, Airtel partnered with Xiaomi to sell the smartphone through Airtel flagship stores across six cities in India. The smartphone went on sale on Flipkart on 30th December for Rs. 9,999 in the first flash sale, and 40,000 units sold out in 6 seconds. Now Airtel has started bookings for the Redmi Note 4G smartphone on the official website. Few days after announcing that it will charge for VoIP calls at standard rates and introducing separate VoIP packs, Airtel today announced that it will not be implementing VoIP packs. Airtel’s new move will be welcomed by customers since the company was heavily criticized by consumers after it decided to implement separate data charges for VoIP data on Skype, Viber and other apps. Airtel announces exclusive VoIP pack at Rs. 75 for 75MB

Few days after announcing that it will charge separately for VoIP calls at standard data rates of 4p/10 KB on 3G and 10p/10 KB on 2G, Airtel today announced that it will introduce new VoIP exclusive packs for its pre-paid customers soon. The VoIP exclusive pack costs Rs. 75 for 75MB with 28 days validity. It is not clear if this pack is applicable for all 2G, 3G and 4G customers. Airtel now charges for VoIP data on Skype, Viber and other apps even with data packs

Airtel has started charging extra for VoIP calls on 3G and 2G in even if you are using packs. So, if you are using Skype to call others using Airtel 3G for 30 minutes that consumes about 60MB, you have to pay for the data charges separately, and it will not be deducted from the 2G or 3G data pack you are using. Vodafone offers free Wi-Fi in Delhi’s Khan Market area for its own and other users

Vodafone has announced that it has started offering free Wi-Fi connectivity in Delhi’s Khan Market area for both Vodafone and Non-Vodafone subscribers. This covers most frequented hotspots like ROUTE 04, SOY, Choko La, Big Chill, Pure Punjab, Chonas, Town Hall and Khan Chacha. Last year Airtel partnered with Google to launch Free Zone to access some Google Apps for free. I experienced a similar free WiFi service at Hyderabad Airport powered by Tata Docomo. UK networks pledge £5 billion to fix coverage issues

The UK Government have announced a major landmark deal with the four major mobile networks to improve mobile coverage in the UK. Under the terms of the deal, the four networks – Vodafone, Three, O2 and EE – have guaranteed to spend £5 billion together to offer guaranteed mobile coverage to 90% of premises across the UK by 2017.
