Airtel officially launches 4G FD-LTE trials in Chennai, lets customers upgrade to 4G at same price as 3G

After earlier reports, Airtel has officially launched its 4G LTE trails in Chennai. It is based on 1800MHz FDD-LTE band 3, which the company acquired last year. Chennai becomes the first city in the country to get the Airtel’s FDD-LTE service. It currently offers TDD-LTE services in Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chandigarh and Amritsar. It is currently offering complimentary upgrade to Airtel 4G at same price as 3G. Vodafone launches new M-Pesa App for bill payments and mobile recharge

Vodafone India has launched new, responsive M-Pesa App that lets their consumers pay their bills and recharge their mobile easily. User can load money to M-Pesa wallet through Net Banking/Debit Card through the app. The company also offers 5% cashback on payments made using the App (up to a maximum of Rs 50 per month). Aircel cuts National Roaming rates by up to 75%

After Airtel, Vodafone, Reliance Communications (RCOM) and Videocon Telecom, Aircel today announced that it has reduced National Roaming tariff by up to 75% and the call rates by 40%. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reduced ceiling tariffs for national roaming calls and SMS last month. This is applicable for pre-paid and post-paid subscribers. Some operators have also introduced special roaming plans. Airtel launches local and STD calling packs for broadband users starting at Rs. 49

Airtel has launched its new voice calling packs for its broadband customers. Airtel says that customers will get unlimited local calls at Rs. 49 per month and unlimited local+STD calls at Rs.99 per month, but the website mentions that Fair Usage Policy (FUP) of 5000 minutes will apply, which is weird since it is limited. Soon after Flipkart announced that it is backing out from joining Airtel Zero platform stating that the company is fully committed to the cause of net neutrality, Airtel has issues a statement that Airtel Zero is not a tariff proposition. The statement made by Flipkart regarding their decision not to offer toll free data service to their customers is consistent with our stand that Airtel Zero is not a tariff proposition, said the company. It says that it is merely an open platform for content providers to provide toll free data services on a completely non discriminatory basis. TRAI reduces roaming charges for calls and SMS

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) today announced that it has reduced ceiling tariffs for national roaming calls and SMS. It also announced that special roaming tariff plan are mandatory for all the operators. Airtel launches ‘Airtel Zero’ to offer free access to mobile applications

Airtel has launched Airtel Zero, a new platform that will offer users access to selected applications and services such as chat apps, e-commerce apps, gaming portals and other Internet-based services without any data charges for Airtel customers. Airtel will be partnering with several e-commerce companies and start-ups to offer free access to their apps. It will launch first on Android and iOS platforms.

Idea, Airtel, Vodafone and others win spectrum as auction raises Rs. 1.10 lakh crore

The Department of Telecom (DoT) has announced the winners in the spectrum auctions in various circles that ended after 115 rounds. At the end of the auction for 800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz government got bids worth Rs 1.098 lakh crore. Idea Cellular bid a maximum of Rs. 30,306.98 crore, Airtel bid Rs. 29,130.20 crore and Vodafone bid Rs. 29,959.74 crore to buy spectrum in the 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2,100 MHz bands.
