Acer announced three new handsets at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and the Liquid C1 was one of them alongside the Liquid E1 and Liquid Z2. The Liquid C1 is particularly interesting because it is running on the Intel Atom architecture. The phone is powered by a 1.2Ghz Intel Atom Z2420 processor paired with 1GB of RAM and the performance is quite impressive. Acer Liquid E1 Hands On

The Acer Liquid E1 was announced at Mobile World Congress as a mid range device running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. The Liquid E1 is equipped with a large 4.5″ qHD screen but feels quite comfortable in the hand due to the rounded edges. Internally, the phone has a dual core 1Ghz process and 1GB of RAM. A very interesting offering from Nokia, the 301 is available in a range of colors. The phone with a range of innovative features at a very affordable price point.

Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Hands On

In a bid to hit each and every size possible out there, Samsung today announced the Galaxy Note 8.0 which fills one of the last remaining size based gaps in their line up. Predictably, the device is a blown up Galaxy Note with a 8 inch display.

The device which is positioned as a tablet does have phone capabilities also built in. A stylus slides in to the back of the tablet and provides the same pen based functions and apps as previously seen on the Note 2. Continue reading “Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 Hands On”

Lenovo A3000 Photo Gallery

Alongside the Lenovo S6000, the company also announced a smaller 7 inch tablet called the A3000. The display is slightly lower resolution at 1024 x 600 pixels but is of the IPS variety with pretty good viewing angles. The contrast ratio, color quality and brightness are definitely quite good.


The tablet isn’t the slimmest we’ve seen with a 11mm profile but the weight is manageable at just under 340grams. The A3000 easily slips into a jacket pocket.  Continue reading “Lenovo A3000 Photo Gallery”

Lenovo S6000 Photo Gallery

In an event ahead of the Mobile World Congress, Lenovo annouced three new tablets. The highest end of those is the S6000 which sports a 10.1 inch screen. The screen is of the IPS variety and has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels.

Huawei Ascend P2 Photo Gallery

At an event here in Barcelona, Huawei which is one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world has introduced its brand new flagship. The Huawei Ascend P2 powered by a custom designed 1.5Ghz quad core processor clocks in at just 8.4 milimetres. There’s Android 4.1 on board with a custom UI layer on top that Huawei calls the Emotion UI.

In terms of design the phone looks a lot like its predecessor, the Ascend P1. There’s 1GB of RAM onboard and 16GB of storage. With the Fira having moved from Fira Montjuic to Fira Gran Vie, we are now going to witness 240,000 square metres of space divided into 8 pavilions ALL booked by the GSMA.

Opera acquires competing mobile browser, Skyfire for $150 million

Opera is well known for its mobile browsers that promise to compress data using the cloud. The company has acquired its chief competitor, Skyfire, for $150 million in a bid to gain access to key technologies around mobile video compression. California based Skyfire is well known for its Rocket Optimizer Software that helps optimize video and other multimedia content for delivery over congested cell towers.
