After the iPad happened, Samsung was the first company to release a 7 inch tablet that could make calls. A new form factor was born, and a long time has passed since then. They are now the biggest tablet maker in the market, mainly thanks to the various mid range calling tablets that the company eventually released. However, Samsung’s desire to completely 1-up the Apple iPads is still here, which has transpired into the Tab S series of tablets, squarely aimed at the iPad Air with the 10.5″ version (our review) and the iPad mini retina, with the 8.4″ version. Yes, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is Samsung’s latest “mini” tablet for the high end market. The “S” here is all about the screen, which is a WQXGA AMOLED panel that proves to be its USP and is central to the whole experience. Launched in India for a price of Rs. 37,800, the 3G data and voice enabled tablet aims to offer the best mini tablet experience for the premium buyer. So, is this the best mini tablet money can buy? LG G3 A with 5.2-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 SoC and LTE-A launched in Korea

LG unveiled the LG G3, the company’s latest flagship smartphone with 5.5-inch Quad HD display back in May. It had Snapdragon 801 SoC clocked at 2.5 GHz and support for LTE-A up to 150Mbps. The company even launched the LG G3 Cat.6 in Korea with similar display, Snapdragon 805 and support for LTE-A up to 225Mbps. Today the company has launched LG G3 A, a new LG G3 variant with 5.2 inch IPS Full HD display and Snapdragon 800 processor, exclusively for Korean operator SKT. P Balaji, Managing Director of Nokia India, now called Microsoft devices Group has quit the company. He joined Nokia from Sony Mobile Communications back in July 2012. He will be Advisor to MDG and Ajey in the transition till October 2014, said the company. Current Head of Sales Operations, India Middle East and Africa, Ajay Mehta will be acting as the Area head for India. He will also continue in his current role at the same time. Xiaomi to sell 20,000 Mi3 units on August 12th

Yesterday Xiaomi sold 15,000 units of Mi3 smartphones in just two seconds. They received about 1,50,000 registrations for yesterday’s sale. Today the company has announced that it would sell 20,000 units of the Mi3 smartphone on 12th August, which is their fourth batch of sale in India. Last week the company said that it sold 20,000 units of Mi3s in first two sales, so totally the company has sold 35,000 units so far, including the third sale. Garmin Corporation has launched its Vivofit fitness band in India in partnership with Flipkart. The fitness device learns your activity level and assigns a personalized daily goal, displays  steps, calories, distance; monitors sleep and is water-resistant for up to 50 meters. It is also compatible with ANT+ heart rate monitors to measure fitness activities and can wirelessly sync with compatible Bluetooth smartphones. Unlike the rechargeable batteries on smartwatches, this has two replaceable CR1632 coin cells that promises one year of battery life. Asus Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 get new firmware updates in India, brings stability and enhancements

Asus launched the Zenfone series in India last month. These smartphones already got some minor updates soon after the launch for bug fixes, now the company has released a new over-the-air (OTA) update (V1.16.40.8_20140725_9834) for the Zenfone 5 and Zenfone 6 smartphones. TRAI reportedly looking to put fee on WhatsApp, Viber and other OTT players

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is working on discussion paper on OTT service providers that could implement charges for over-the-top (OTT) players of apps like WhatsApp, Viber, Skype etc, according to a report from Business Today. It wants them to pay connectivity charges to telecom companies and share revenue with the government as well. Xolo launched the 8X-1000, the company’s latest smartphone with HIVE UI today for Rs. 13,999. Xolo Play 8X-1200, another top-end smartphone has been listed on the official website. It has a 5-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD IPS display based on one-glass-solution technology, powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6592T processor with Mali 450 GPU and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat), but this doesn’t have HIVE UI like the 8X-1000.

Today the company has officially announced its Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 that happens in Berlin, Beijing and New York simultaneously on September 3rd. The invite reads Ready? Note the Date! and there are four app icons around the Unpacked box that clearly says it’s going to be the Note 4.
