The dream project of the Indian government and a poster child for bringing affordable computing to the masses, the Aakash tablet has been under the media spotlight for reasons good and bad.

Huawei working on 6.1 inch smartphone, to be more powerful than the Galaxy Note 2

Speaking on the Chinese social network, Weibo, Huawei Senior Vice President Yu Chengdong confirmed that Huawei is working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 competitor. The phone which has been rumored for a while is expected to ship with an absolutely massive 6.1 inch full HD display. The phone has been rumored to be called the Ascend Mate.

Google Nexus 7 Unboxing

I was recently in the US on a short visit and managed to pick up the Google Nexus 7 first Android Tablet to run on Android 4.1 JellyBean. Here is a quick unboxing video of the this tiny little tablet from Google & Asus which is priced at $199 (excluding tax and shipping). This 7 inch tablet has a back-lit IPS display which sports a resolution of 1280×800 pixels

Lenovo to launch ThinkPad Tablet 2 aimed at business users

Hot on the heels of the FCC listing, The Verge has managed to get its hand on marketing documents for the upcoming Windows 8 tablet. Named as the ThinkPad Tablet 2, it will be powered by the dual-core Intel Clover Trail processor.

Zync Z-909 plus launched at Rs. 3,699

Zync recently announced its low cost tablet, the Z-909 plus. Coming in at just around Rs. 3700, it is one of the cheapest tablets in the market right now. The 7″ tablet is powered by a 1Ghz processor coupled with 256MB of RAM. Unfortunately the WVGA touchscreen is resistive in nature. WiFi connectivity is present and a 0.3 MP camera can be found up front.

Lenovo ThinkPad tablet running Windows 8 shows up at FCC

Lenovo’s upcoming ThinkPad branded Windows 8 tablet just made a stop over at FCC for testing. Engadget previously got their hands on the tablet at Computex and report that the 10.1″ tablet is powered by an Intel Clover Trail CPU.

Casio introduces four new Android tablets in Japan

Casio has introduced its latest tablets aimed at business users in the Japanese market. All four tablets have a 10.1″ 1,280×800 multi-touch LED display. The Paper Writer V-N500-WJ and Paper Writer V-N500-J come with a stylus and have handwriting recognition capabilities which also let it convert handwritten text to digital.

Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Preview

At the Mobile Benchmarking Workshop here in San Francisco , Qualcomm showed off it’s next generation Quadcore mobile processor – the Snapdragon S4 Pro (APQ 8064) .  And guess what Qualcomm just did not make just a boring announcement about a chipset and that the devices using the chip will be in the market later this year. But , Qualcomm let us use a tablet (prototype obviously ) which uses the new quadcore chip with 4 Krait cores along with the new Adreno 320 GPU. Google’s Nexus 7 is one of the hottest selling Android tablets right now owing to its attractive price point but it seems that Asus might have cut more than a few corners to make it cheap enough. Users are reporting a whole host of problems and a majority of them seem to involve the touchscreen.
