Asus will release Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its Zenfone series of smartphones along with a couple of Padfone devices. The Taiwanese electronic makers plan about the update has been leaked on company’s ZenTalk forum.

Among the numerous Android smartphones and tablets that Asus showcased at CES 2014 was its trademark PadFone device. However, unlike the previous iterations of PadFone series, this year, Asus has decided to tone down a little in terms of specifications. The yesteryear PadFone devices had top of the draw specifications, but this year’s Asus PadFone Mini is a more subtle yet affordable PadFone offering. Asus announced the PadFone infinity which is the 3rd generation PadFone at MWC 2013 earlier this year in Barcelona. Now the handset has gone on sale in some markets such as Asus’s home market Taiwan. As you might be aware I am right now in Taipei for Computex 2013 and managed to get my hands on the Padfone Infinity which is currently on sale here for around 20990 Taiwanese dollars or Rs.40000 approx. Check out the unboxing video below featuring the HTC One and PadFone 2 as well. We managed to only get the phone part of the Padfone , the tablet part or the Padfone Station was not available.

Asus is one of the best handset makers to provide timely updates for its Android phones. They launched the PadFone 2 last year with Android 4.0 ICS on board and rolled out an update to Android 4.1 JellyBean last year.Now the PadFone 2 has got a rather minor software update which is expected to make the already awesome PadFone 2 even more stable. There seem to be improvements in overall stability , camera , WiFi and battery life according to the official change log which you can find below.

When Asus launched the PadFone 2 back in October , it launched the device with Android 4.0 Ice Cream sandwich on-board. The Asus Padfone was an innovative gadget but it was a bit bulky and used only a dual core processor.It launched at Computex earlier this year and we spotted it at MWC and finally it was launched in India last month. Asus took the world by surprise when it launched what is still the world’s only phone and tablet combo, the Padfone. The company is planning to update the specifications of the phone, improve on the docking mechanism and we just got our first look at it via a video where CEO Jimmy Shen walks us through the Padfone 2.
The Padfone 2 is believed to include a 4.7″ screen with a 720p resolution. The camera too is believed to have been bumped up to 13 megapixels. While the original Padfone Docking Station included a door to let you slide in the phone, the redesigned version is much thinner and has an exposed back. The PadFone comes with 4.3-inch (960×540 pixels), Super AMOLED capacitive Multi touch display and is powered by 1.5 GHz Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor.
