Nvidia Project Shield Hands On

Nvidia’s move into handheld gaming is one that has been met with much skepticism. Over at the Mobile World Congress, we spent some time with non final hardware to gauge for ourselves whether Project Shield was as impressive as it sounds.

The hardware itself is essentially a gamepad with a 5-inch 720p foldable screen attached to it. You get all the essential buttons which includes 2 joysticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, L/R bumpers, L/R analog triggers, Start/Back/Home/Volume buttons, and a multi-function NVIDIA/Power button.  Continue reading “Nvidia Project Shield Hands On”

The Big MWC 2013 wrap up

The Mobile World Congress 2013 has been one hell of a ride! Jolla Sailfish OS Hands-On

At MWC 2013 , we were lucky to sit down with Marc Dillon, CEO of Jolla which is a mobile start-up based  in Finland. While Jolla might be new to mobile scene, most of the team previously worked with Nokia for several years before stepping out to start Jolla.If you were a fan of the Nokia N9 or any of the  Maemo or MeeGo devices , you will surely appreciate the approach Jolla’s Sailfish OS brings to the mobile arena.

Watch a nice 6 minute overview of the Sailfish OS presented by none other than the CEO Marc himself on a Nokia N950 developer device.

ZTE Grand Memo hands on

ZTE had a press conference at the Mobile World Congress on Day one of the event for the announcement of its new phablet device known as the ZTE Grand Memo. It was presided over by ZTE executives as well as Qualcomm executives who shared that the Grand memo will be the first device to sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad core processor. So, we were intrigued and wanted to take a closer look at the device, and hence we did a photo gallery initially but now, here is the hands on video below.

NEC Medias W – Dual Screen Android Phone Hands-On

NEC Medias W is one of the best products we had a chance to play with at the Mobile World Congress 2013. It is an Android phone with 2 4.3 inch LCD displays which can be used either together or separately. You can browse 2 websites at the same time , watch a video on one screen while checking your mail on the other. You can actually play the same video on both the screens simultaneously if you place the phone on desk. So two people can watch the video comfortably without having to bump into each other.

Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD Hands On

Alongside the lower end Alcatel One Touch Scribe Easy, the French company also launcher a higher end variant of the phone. Called the Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD the phone has the same form factor but steps up the game in terms of specifications.

The screen has a resolution of 1280 x 720 and is quite vibrant to look at. That said, the display isn’t really what you’d expect on a top end device with the increasing focus towards full HD screens. The IPS panel is 5 inches in size. Continue reading “Alcatel One Touch Scribe HD Hands On”

Alcatel launched a range of new devices at the Mobile World Congress and we went hands on with the Alcatel One Touch Scribe. Aimed at the phablet market but at a budget price segment, the Alcatel One Touch Scribe Easy is equipped with a 5inch WVGA display which isn’t particularly sharp to look at.
