Videocon Telecommunications plans launch its 4G services using FDD-LTE technology by December 2014, according to a report by ETTelecom. It would initially launch the services in Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. At the 4G World India conference, Videocon Telecom CEO Arvind Bali said to ETTelecom that it plans to launch the services between December to January and would launch it in 10 towns initially.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) and Reliance Communications have signed a new deal. Under the agreement, Reliance Jio would utilize RCOM’s nationwide intra-city fiber network for its 4G roll out. OmniVision Technologies has launched OV6211, the company’s new ultra-compact, low-power global shutter sensor designed for notebooks, tablets, mobile phones, wearable electronics, gaming devices, security systems and more. It is the first global shutter sensor to capture 400 x 400 (square) resolution video at 120 frames per second (FPS), says the company. OmniVision sensor is already present in several smartphones from companies such as Gionee, Motorola, Xiaomi, Micromax and more. Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) would launch voice services along with high-speed data services on 4G, reports The Economic Times. Since the company own both 2300 MHz and 1800 MHz spectrums, it would mix airwaves to offer both high-speed data and voice services. After confirming the presence of a mobile-enabled version in the works when launching the Surface 2, the Redmond giant has finally taken the wraps off Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE 4G on the AT&T network, retailing at a price of 679$ for the 64 GB version. The Surface was Microsoft’s first play as a PC hardware company. The first product, called Surface RT, was largely a flop due to poor usability and performance, and even took a write down in the company’s earnings. Surface 2, the successor, was launched almost an year later, with good reviews and better reception from consumers, but still not as popular as Microsoft would like. Touted as a portable productive machine, the Surface 2 in its initial variants lacked a LTE chip for mobile data, which was apparently a highly requested feature, and hence we are seeing it now, in the form of the slightly modified LTE variant of the Surface 2.

Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has entered into a pan-India tower infrastructure sharing agreement with Viom Networks, a joint venture of Tata Teleservices and SREI Infrastructure to use the latter’s telecom infrastructure with a footprint of over 42,000 telecom towers for their 4G roll out. MediaTek, popular Taiwanese Chip maker is working on a new Hotknot proximity technology, a cheaper alternative to NFC, according to a recent report from EE Times-Asia. This uses a special capacitor touch sensor chip combined with gravity sensor and proximity sensor, that are already present in latest smartphones. MediaTek has announced Pump Express fast-charging technology for smartphones and tablets. This is a system-on-a-chip (SOC) and DC wall charger technology to make battery recharge time quicker on smartphones and tablets. This reduces charging time by half or by up to 50%, says MediaTek. Bharti Airtel has launched 4G on mobile starting from Bengaluru. Airtel announced their plans to roll out 4G LTE service on smartphones for customers in the city back in December. It also rolled out carrier settings update on the iPhone 5s and 5c that enables the 2300 MHz LTE (Band 40) on the smartphones. Aircel has appointed China’s ZTE Corporation to supply and deploy its 4G network in India. ZTE had already partnered with Aitel to deploy 4G network in Kolkata and Chandigarh. We already reported that Aircel would start 4G LTE trial starting from Chennai by the end of 2013. Now Aircel has announced that LTE deployment will be initiated in Chennai, Rest of Tamil Nadu (RoTN) and few other business critical circles.

Airtel launched 4G LTE services in Pune last October, and rolled out the 4G TD-LTE service in Kolkata, Bengaluru and Punjab, but it doesn’t support voice or SMS currently. Earlier this year Airtel had announced that they would offer voice services for 4G customers in Pune. The company recently shared on Twitter that they plan to introduce 4G services for customers with 4G-enabled smartphones. The mobile handset market today is pretty much dominated with phones powered by either a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset or a MediaTek chipset. But there are certainly few other players as well.You might be aware of Samsung’s Exynos chips and also Apple’s own custom chips found on the iPhone and iPad. Then there are Nvidia & Intel too. Another player who is not very popular in the market at least in India is Broadcom. The company is finally talking and had invited us to a Mobility Roundtable in New Delhi few days back where I got to speak to several executives from the Irvine , California-based company. You might have heard about the Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos, which is one the most popular phones to be powered by a Broadcom BCM28155 chipset. Another device which was powered by the same chip was the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus.

Aircel has announced that they have partnered with D-Link, popular for its wireless networking device to offer 3G data benefits to its customers across India. This would let customers enjoy 1 GB of free 3G data per month for a period of 3 months for customers who activates Aircel 3G SIM on D-Link data card and DWM-156 and routers such as DWR-512 and DWR-730. Customers however need to make a recharge of Rs. 100 per month post activation to avail the benefits.
