Qatar Foundation buys 5% stake in Bharti Airtel for $1.26 billion


Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator will sell 5 percent stake to Doha-based Qatar Foundation Endowment for $1.26 billion (~Rs. 6,800 crore) by issuing 199,870,006 new shares at a price of Rs. 340 apiece, according to a recent report from Economic Times. Bharti reported its 13th successive drop in quarterly profits yesterday, with a near 50 percent fall in profits compared with a year earlier. Airtel launches WiFi hangout – a prepaid hotspot service in select cities

India’s leading mobile and broadband provider Airtel has now sought after a new way to provide its broadband internet as a service. While the notion of a paid WiFi hotspot is nothing new in India, there has not been a wide commercial push that has widened its reach, and Airtel may fix just that, with its new “WiFi Hangout” service, a prepaid WiFi hotspot, initially launched in three cities/regions namely Mumbai, NCR and Bangalore.

Airtel has launched their Online store – shop.airtel.com where they sell mobile devices from different brands such as Apple, Samsung, Nokia Sony, LG, HTC and BlackBerry. They also offer 33% offer on mobile devices with exclusive airtel plans such as 500MB free 3G data for 1 month on select phones. They have partnered Infibeam to sell and deliver the Mobile phones.

The mysterious story of the Apple iPhone 4S not working in India

If you are one amongst consumers who had purchased the iPhone 4S from outside India and were facing issues getting it to work here , good news for you. Many users including me were seeing no signal bars on the iPhone 4S in India. Calls and SMS were not working.Surprisingly 3G data was working fine on most operators including Airtel , Vodafone and BSNL. I had tried using some international SIM cards such as AT&T, T-Mobile , O2 UK, 3 UK, SmarTone (HK). Beetel To Launch Android Powered Beetel Magiq Tablet In India

Beetel, a part of the Bharti Group, will soon launch its first tablet device, the Beetel Magiq in India. This tablet runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System and it seems to be a rebranded version of Huawei SmaKit S7.

Almost all the major handset manufacturers are entering into the tablet market. Even Micromax and Maxx mobiles are planning to launch their tablet in India. Beetel, a part of the Bharti Group, will soon launch its first tablet device, the Beetel Magiq in India. This tablet was recently listed at Sagar Telecom, an unknown online retailer in India, but the page was later removed. This tablet runs on the Android 2.2 (Froyo) Operating System and it seems to be a rebranded version of Huawei SmaKit S7.
