Jio launched its feature phone, JioPhone in June 2017 in India. The phone sported a candy bar design, came with support for 4G VoLTE and had support for 22 Indian languages. The successor to the JioPhone i.e., JioPhone 2 with QWERTY keyboard was launched in July 2018. Jio saw great sales of both the smartphones and today, new reports have emerged that Jio becomes the leader in the feature phone market.

Last week Reliance Communications (RCOM) announced the completion of the sale of its Media Convergence Nodes (MCNs) and related infrastructure assets, worth Rs 2,000 crore, to Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited (RJIO). Today the company announced the completion of the sale of its fiber and related infrastructure assets, worth Rs 3,000 crore, to Reliance Jio.

Reliance Jio unveiled JioPhone, the company’s first VoLTE feature phone back in July and started pre-bookings in August, which went on sale from September through retail stores across the country. The company even stopped bookings for the phone due to huge response. Today the company has started selling the phone via Amazon.in at Rs. 1500, which will be refunded after 36 months. Reliance Jio today reported Rs. 6,147 crore revenue and a net loss of 270.59 crore for its first quarterly financial performance for the period that ended 30th September, 2017. It reported Standalone earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of 1,443 crore and EBITDA margin of 23.5%, and Standalone earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) of 260 crore and EBIT margin of 4.2%. The first image of a VoLTE feature phone from Jio surfaced earlier this year. Now a new LYF branded Jio VoLTE feature phone has surfaced in images. We still don’t know the final name of the phone, but TechPP that got hold of the images of the phone says that the phone runs KAI OS, a forked version of HTML5-based Firefox OS that was killed by Mozilla last year. Reliance Capital has sold its nearly 1% stake in Paytm for Rs 275 crore to China-based e-commerce giant Alibaba group. The financial services arm of Anil Ambani-led group had invested Rs 10 crore for this stake in Paytm.
