Sygic finally launches first turn-by-turn Navigation app for Nokia N900

Sygic has finally announced the public availability of Sygic Mobile Maps with Turn-by-turn navigation for the Nokia N900 Maemo devie. It’s available for purchase for around 60 euros and you need to download around 1.8 Gigabytes of maps data to your phone !

Shipments of GPS-Enabled Handsets increased by 92 percent in 2009

According to a new report by research firm Berg insight, shipments of GPS-enabled GSM/3G handsets increased 92 percent across the around the globe. Over 150 million GPS-enabled phones were shipped in 2009 and forecasts for 2014 stand at a mighty 770 million units

Qualcomm bids for 3G Spectrum in India

Qualcomm Inc which is a leading developer of mobile hardware solutions including the latest Snapdragon processors for mobile phones is now bidding for the 3G Spectrum in India. The 3G auctions are finally planned to take place in India next month and the government is inviting bids from companies willing to take part in the auctions. The last date for applying is March 19th.

First Data partners with Tyfone to bring NFC to the masses

NFC or Near Field Communications in Mobile phones has never gone mainstream due to the very poor adoption by handset makers.  It’s practically very difficult to get hold of a mobile handset supported NFC even for testing forget about retail.  First Data and Tyfon have joined hands to bring NFC to the masses and this move can be a game changer for mobile payments and near field communications.  The have managed to create microSD card with a NFC chip inside and this means that roughly 60% of today phones can become a real mobile wallet when used along with these special memory cards. After Bangalore, BSNL Launches its 3G Services in Thiruvananthapuram

Earlier this week, BSNL launched its 3G services in Bangalore in the presence of the telecom minister – A. Raja. After the successful rollout in Bangalore, BSNL have now launched its high speed data transfer 3G services in Thiruvananthapuram but this time it was Sashi Tharoor (Minister of state for external affairs) who was being invited to launch the services.

Samsung to start mass production of touchscreen AMOLED panels

Starting from March, Samsung Mobile Display will start mass production of the World’s First Touch function AMOLED panel.
