We just finished reviewing the ASUS Fonepad and witnessed a launch of its beefed up variant too, but that won’t stop us from comparing the new calling tablet from ASUS with the similarly priced small tablets that we have in our labs. Like we compared it with the Samsung Galaxy Note 510 and the Galaxy Tab 2 310, we are now comparing it to the Apple iPad mini, which is probably the best small tablet money can buy right now. So, how does the ASUS Fonepad compare to the smaller iPad? We took them both in front of the camera to find out –

Xolo Q1000 with 5-inch HD display, 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, Android 4.2 spotted online

Xolo is all set to release the Q1000, the company’s flagship Android smartphone in the Q Core series. The phone has surfaced on online retail site Flipkart. It would come with a 5-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD IPS display at 295 PPI similar to the A1000 that was launched earlier this year. It is powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8MP auto focus camera at the back with LED Flash and a BSI (Back Side Illumination) sensor for low-light imaging and a 1.2 MP front-facing camera. Idea Cellular has launched two new Android smartphones, Idea ID-920 and Idea Aurus III. The Idea ID 920 is the successor of the ID 918 that was launched last year and the Aurus III is the successor of the Aurus II that was launched last month. The ID 920 has a 3.5 inch (320 x 480 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 2.3 ( Gingerbread). The Aurus III has a 4-inch (480 x 800 pixels) capacitive touch screen display and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). Both these smartphones are powered by a 1 GHz processor and comes with Dual SIM (GSM + GSM) support. Micromax A110Q screenshot leaks, to run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean?

There were rumors about the Micromax A110Q for the past week few week, now the first screenshot of the phone’s about page has leaked by an anonymous tipster to the MMXNewscaster. It reveals that the phone would run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). Build number and custom build version matches the build.prop file from the installer package that leaked recently. Opera 14 for Android out of beta, brings new UI, Off-Road mode and more

Opera 14 for Android is finally out of beta and is available from the Google Play. Opera released the version 14 beta back in March that brought the new WebKit engine replacing Opera’s own Presto engine. The new Opera browser is based on Chromium 26 engine but the Chromium/Blink-based browser technology is not available yet. Opera says that it would be available in future as they plan to stay closely in sync with the Chromium development cycle with frequent updates. Karbonn A4+, successor of the Karbonn A4 in the Smart series is now available from online retailer Saholic. It has a 4.0-inch (480 × 800 pixels) TFT capacitive touch screen display and is powered by a 1 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). It packs a 3.2-megapixel rear camera, but it lacks a front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support with dual standby and has 2G (EDGE) connectivity. Gionee has launched the Elife E3 in the new Colourful Elife series. It comes with a 4.7-inch HD (1280 x 720 pixels) IPS display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor and run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel auto focus rear camera with LED flash, BSI sensor, 720p HD video recording and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It has dual SIM support with dual standby and is just 7.9 mm thick. The in-built Digital Theatre System (DTS) Sound offers enhanced multimedia audio experience and OTA (Over the Air) function allows for software upgrades. It has a 4.5-inch (854 ×480 pixels) FWVGA capacitive touch screen display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). It has a 8-megapixel auto focus camera with LED flash and a 0.3MP (VGA) front-facing camera. It has a slim form factor with curved corners and has matte finish on the back. It comes with range of pre-loaded applications such as WeChat, Ebook reader and more with HD movies and HD games.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has been on a spree today with announcement of a stunning 1.1 billion USD Tumblr acquisition. Later in the day she took the stage to announce a brand new set of changes to make Flickr relevant again. iBall has launched the Slide Q9703, the company’s latest tablet in the Slide Performance series. It has a 9.7-inch (2048 x 1536 pixels) HD IPS 10 multi-touch retina display, powered by a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor with PowerVR SGX544 MP2 GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 5-megapixel auto focus camera on the back and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. We reviewed the Zync Quad 9.7 that comes with similar features, but the Zync tablet is cheaper. This also includes 4K video player that lets you play videos at 4K resolution (4,096 × 2,304 pixels) on the tablet.
