Apparently Motorola is planning to launch not one but two new handsets on Verizon this year. They are expected to be the DROID Maxx 2 and the DROID Turbo 2. The former is expected to be a mid-range device that is said to be a rebranded version of the Moto X Play.

Carl Pei, one of the co-founders of OnePlus has just posted the link to the OnePlus 2 Kernel on his twitter profile. The kernel will allow developers to create custom ROMs for the device.
Joining the bandwagon of other smartphone makers like Xiaomi and Microsoft, homegrown smartphone maker, Micromax is planning to develop its own OS, as per a latest report from the Economic Times.

Oppo has introduced Oppo R5s, an upgraded version of last year’s Oppo R5 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, compared to 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. It has the same 4.85mm thin body, stainless steel micro-arc frame and still requires an USB-to-3.5mm audio adapter. Other specifications include, 5.2-inch 1080p AMOLED screen, Octa-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, Color OS 2.0 based on Android 4.4 (KitKat), 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. LG has announced LG G Pad II 10.1, the company’s latest Android tablet and the successor of last year’s G Pad 10.1 ahead of IFA 2015. It has a 10.1-inch (1920 x 1200) WUXGA display and runs on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop). LG has decided to go with the old Snapdragon 800 SoC for the tablet. It has a 5-megapixel rear camera without flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. It comes in both WiFi and 4G variants. Apple has found that a small percentage of iPhone 6 Plus units that were sold between September 2014 and January 2015 have a manufacturing defect in the rear iSight camera causing blurry images. It has launched a replacement program that would let users with the defect to replace the camera unit. According to 9to5Mac, Apple will only replace the iSight camera component within the iPhone 6 Plus and not hand out new replacement phones.

Xiaomi is all set to enter the African market in September, according to a report from Forbes. It has partnered with pan-Africa distributor, Mobile in Africa Limited to sell its smartphones in 50 countries in sub-Saharan Africa, said the report citing the distributor’s president, tech entrepreneur RJ van Spaandonk. Tablets are becoming increasingly similar to one another and it’s becoming hard to stand out from the crowd. However the Acer Predator 8, which is a gaming tablet announced during Computex in Taiwan earlier this year should have no such problem. The tablet seems to have a design that is inspired by the Alienware series of laptops and computers from Dell.

ZUK, Lenovo-backed startup introduced ZUK Z1 smartphone in China last week. It recently said that the international variant of the smartphone will run on the latest Cyanogen OS 12.1 based on Android 5.1.1 (Lollipop) compared to the Chinese version that runs on ZUI based on Android 5.1 (Lollipop).
