Competition has never been stronger in the mid-range segment and it has become very difficult for manufacturers to create devices that have a USP compared to other devices in the same category. The price range was primarily dominated by Xiaomi until 2015 where we see new entrants in the form of the Moto X Play and the OnePlus X. But most recently, Lenovo launched the Vibe P1, which at least on paper seems to overcome any of the shortcomings that the other devices have in this price range. The primary focus being on battery life. While the Moto X Play itself had great battery life, the Vibe P1 with its 5000 mAH battery should be even better. So, let us dive into the review to see whether the smartphone ticks all the right boxes and whether it truly is the most worthy contender in the price range like the specifications suggest.
A photograph is as good as the subject in it. An out of focus photo is as good as a nonexistent one and this is a problem that still afflicts smartphone cameras. Anything apart from perfect lighting conditions or equally still subject apart, a majority of smartphones just can’t focus fast enough to capture the subject. So, color us surprised when we learnt that the Sony Xperia Z5 adopted Sony’s blazing Hybrid Autofocus system from it’s DSLR lineup and implemented it in a smartphone. With potentially class leading focus speeds, what better way than to see how much better the Z5 is against the competition than to pitch them head to head?

The OnePlus X is probably the first time that OnePlus has really deviated from their design language. Yes, the OnePlus 2 was different from the OnePlus One in a few obvious ways but the basic shape, ergonomics etc remained quite similar. While it did feel like an improvement, people could still probably tell that it was a OnePlus device especially when they touched the sandstone back. The OnePlus X on the other hand feels totally new. The design of the OnePlus X has both glass at the front as well as the back on the Onyx version and a Ceramic back on the Ceramic version.

LG introduced the company’s new flagship V10 smartphone in the V series last month. It went on sale in Korea early October and started rolling out globally from the United States, China and Hong Kong last week. The international version of the V10 was not on sale in Hong Kong, but we managed to pick a Korean version of the V10 (LG-F600L) for LG U+ for about HK$ 4100, which coverts to about Rs. 35,000. Hardware and software make the product but it is the experience that sells the idea behind it. An ideology well adopted by Apple and the iPhone and now by Google to an extent. Today’s Nexus devices are no longer developer devices, no longer showcases of how Android can scale down and certainly not a showcase of delivering high end hardware for a low low cost.
