Micromax Canvas 4 vs Canvas HD

Micromax has slowly grown from a company selling entry-level feature phones to the company creating much hype in the mid-range phablet market in India. Things started to fall in place for Micromax with the Canvas 2 which was launched less than a year ago. Within the last six months, we have seen two flagships from Micromax Canvas HD in February and now the Canvas 4 in July.

The Canvas HD was a big update over the Canvas 2 considering its quad-core processor, HD display and newer version of Android. The Canvas 4 is not a huge upgrade over the Canvas HD expect in terms of build quality, better camera and more recent version of Android out of the box.

Google extends Windows Phone calendar and contact syncing deadline to December 31st

There was huge uproar after Google announced its plans to drop EAS support for all non-corporate GMail accounts, mainly because that affected Windows Phone, which has no in-built support for the new CardDAV and CalDAV technologies. Hence Microsoft and Google decided to extend the support for Windows Phone devices until July 31st, yesterday, a date from which devices without the GDR2 update would have stopped supporting syncing to Google servers. Thankfully, the companies have extended the date yet again, to December 31st, since most devices haven’t got the update yet.

Samsung’s Galaxy line of phones is arguably the most popular mobile brand on the planet right now, with the Galaxy S4 selling 20 million units worldwide since its launch just a few months ago. Keen to capitalise on the buzz surrounding the iconic name, the Korean company has expanded the portfolio with spin-off devices, including the Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy S4 Zoom and Galaxy S4 Active. While the two former phones do little more than exploit the name to gain attention, the S4 Active offers the same power as the original S4 model – with the bonus of carrying IP67 certification, which means it is dust and water resistant. Sony Xperia Z Ultra Benchmarks

Sony Xperia Z Ultra Benchmarks

Sony launched the Xperia Z Ultra, their latest flagship Android phone with a 6.44-inch 1080p display and a Snapdragon 800 processor in India earlier this week. We brought you the unboxing of the device recently. Here we have the benchmarks of the device. The device is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) 28nm HPm quad-core Krait 400 CPU clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 330 GPU. As you can see on the image above CPU-Z says that it is clocked at 2.15 GHz. We brought you the benchmarks of the Snapdragon 800 few months back on a reference smartphone. Benchmarks of the Xperia Z Ultra is almost similar to the test device. This one is under clocked a bit from the original chip that is clocked at 2.3 GHz.

Apple CEO Tim Cook meets China Mobile head to talk cooperation: Reuters

China Mobile, the world’s largest operator by volume of subscribers is also the only operator in China that doesn’t offer iPhones or iPads for sale. The primary reason why China Mobile doesn’t offer Apple products is due to the company’s homegrown TD-SCDMA technology for 3G, which is an exclusive standard for the operator, for which most companies produce custom radios in their phones. But this might change soon, with Reuters reporting that Apple’s CEO Tim Cook is in talks with China Mobile’s Chairman Xi Guohua, for a possible cooperation between the two giants.

Samsung denies benchmark boosting allegations, says it’s normal for most fullscreen apps

Just hours ago, we had seen how Samsung had boosted its benchmark scores for a favourable result in comparison to the competition. After all the brouhaha surrounding this issue, Samsung has spoken up, denying the allegations by saying that most full screen apps have the access to full GPU clock speed. That said, the vague response on the company’s Korean website doesn’t seem to explain what “Benchmark booster” actually means.

Oppo Find 5 receives an OTA update, new features and bug fixes aplenty

The Oppo Find 5 is one of the very few phones in the world to receive updates driven by the community. If you had read our review, you might have have noticed us mentioning the overwhelming community support the device gets. Yes, there is a robust feedback system that the company employs thanks to the limited availability and a responsive fan base. Considering the feedback, they released an OTA update earlier, with bug fixes mostly dominating the changelog, and similarly there is another update available now, but this time they have added quite a lot of feature, read past the break to find the changelog.

Android-powered home phone announced by Panasonic

Panasonic seems to have backed out of the smartphone race, but is now looking to bring back the home phones with its new Android powered home phone. The home phone will be running on Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and will have a 3.5 inch HVGA display (320×480 pixels). Samsung caught optimizing Galaxy S4 for better benchmark performance

Samsung phones have always performed well in the benchmarks. Usually their flagships take top spots in the benchmark and now a member of Beyond3D found that Samsung had optimized their GPU to run at a higher clock speed only for certain benchmarks.

Oppo confirms new camera centric N-lens series of devices

We have already seen how the Oppo Find 5 had a great camera. If that wasn’t any indication how the Chinese company is serious about cameras, we have more information coming in. Oppo has just confirmed to Engadget on a previous scoop that they are indeed developing a new series of camera centric devices dubbed the “N-Lens”. These devices are more of connected cameras and less of cameraphones if the initial information is to be believed. But, the company also says that the N-Lens series of devices will be “most important flagship series for Oppo going forward.”

Sony launched its big ass new smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra in India though it won’t be available in retail till 2nd August. We’ve previously done a hands on with the handset that borders on being a tablet and here are some additional images of the 6.4″ behemoth. Our initial impressions are quite positive and if you can look past the size, the Xperia Z Ultra is definitely a very impressive device. Sony’s new Triluminous Display with with X-Reality engine works wonders and is a much needed improvement over the dim and not very impressive screen on the Xperia Z. The 6.4″ panel has a resolution of 1920×1080.
