OnePlus 15 to get 165Hz display, enhanced gaming experience

OnePlus today staked its claim as a leader in the mobile gaming industry at the “OnePlus Gaming Conference 2025.” The company at the China event revealed the gaming features of its next-generation flagship, the OnePlus 15, which will be powered by the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform.

It also revealed a 165Hz ultra-high frame rate gaming ecosystem, promising to deliver the smoothest and most responsive mobile gaming experience to date.

Earlier this week, OnePlus revealed the display image of the OnePlus 15 and said that the phone will feature 1.15mm physically narrow bezels on all the four sides and no prominent chin. Its flat screen, extremely narrow quadrilaterals, and large R-angles maximize both its feel and visual impact, said OnePlus China head.

A New Standard: The 165Hz Ecosystem

OnePlus has officially declared that 165Hz is the new benchmark for its performance-oriented devices. Both the upcoming flagship OnePlus 15 and the performance-focused OnePlus Ace 6 will feature 165Hz high-refresh-rate screens.

The company confirmed that subsequent OnePlus mobile phone products will also adopt this new standard, solidifying its commitment to high-frame-rate displays across its lineup. While the future of OnePlus tablets remains uncertain, this move aims to make 165Hz a mainstream feature for its users. (It is worth noting that competitors, such as the ROG gaming phone 6, introduced 165Hz screens as early as three years ago).

The technological leap from the current mainstream 120Hz to 165Hz delivers quantifiable improvements. According to OnePlus, this upgrade achieves:

  • A reduction in the frame refresh interval from 8 milliseconds to just 6 milliseconds.
  • A 10-millisecond reduction in full-link operation delay and picture delay.
  • A significant 27% decrease in picture ghosting.
The Upgraded ‘Fengchi Gaming Core’

At the heart of this new ecosystem is a massively upgraded version of OnePlus’s proprietary “Fengchi Gaming Core.” For the first time, this core technology achieves a deep synergy between the CPU, GPU, and NPU chips. The new architecture introduces NPU inference and three major upgrades:

  • Open CPU Architecture: The underlying CPU architecture has been opened up to achieve granular optimization of energy efficiency for demanding tasks.
  • NPU Optical Flow Rendering: The Neural Processing Unit (NPU) is now utilized for optical flow rendering, enabling precise and intelligent frame rate control.
  • GPU Image Enhancement: The Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) has been enhanced to specifically improve the image quality of translucent scenes, a common challenge in complex game environments.

Compared to the previous generation, the new Fengchi Gaming Core boasts a 29.8% optimization in scheduler efficiency, a 15.6% reduction in core load, and an impressive 11.7% optimization in the whole machine’s power consumption.

From Lab to Lobby: Real-World Gaming Performance

OnePlus backed its technical claims with impressive real-world data. During testing, the demanding title “Delta Operation” was shown to run stably at a full 165 frames per second on ultra-high quality settings.

To ensure gamers can take immediate advantage of the new technology, OnePlus has worked with developers to prepare a launch lineup of compatible titles. The first batch includes five mainstream mobile esports games, covering six major genres such as FPS and MOBA. Among the confirmed titles are fan favorites like “Call of Duty Mobile” and “League of Legends Mobile.”

A Vision for Competitive Dominance

During the technology launch, OnePlus China head Louis Jie emphasized the tangible benefits for gamers. “The 165Hz frame rate will significantly improve gaming precision,” he stated. “This allows players to detect enemies earlier in FPS games, observe wild monster movements more easily in MOBAs, and capture actions with pinpoint accuracy in fighting games.”

To complement the display and processing power, OnePlus has also upgraded its “esports three-core” hardware solution, which is designed to enhance network stability and touch responsiveness, ensuring every aspect of the gaming experience is optimized for competitive play.

We should know more details about the OnePlus 15 in the coming weeks.
