OpenAI on Thursday released a preview of ChatGPT Pulse for Pro users on mobile. Pulse is a new AI experience where ChatGPT proactively researches and delivers personalized updates based on your chats, feedback, and connected apps like Gmail and Google Calendar.
What is ChatGPT Pulse?
Pulse lets ChatGPT present information tailored to your preferences. Updates appear as visual cards that can be scanned quickly or expanded for more details. Over time, user feedback helps Pulse become more accurate and relevant.
Key Features
1) Personalized Daily Updates
- Performs asynchronous research each night, synthesizing memory, chat history, and feedback.
- Daily updates include follow-ups on frequent topics, quick meal ideas, or steps toward long-term goals such as triathlon training.
- Gmail and Calendar integration allows ChatGPT to draft agendas, remind you of events, or suggest restaurants. These features are off by default and can be toggled anytime.
- All content passes safety checks to prevent harmful or policy-violating suggestions.

2) User-Controlled Content
- The “curate” option lets you specify what ChatGPT researches, such as local events, skill-learning tips, or professional updates.
- Users can give thumbs up or down feedback and review or delete their feedback history to guide future updates.

3) Focused, Practical Updates
- Updates are delivered once per day, providing essential information without endless scrolling.
- Each update is available for the day only, unless saved or followed up in a chat. Users can expand updates, request next steps, or save them to track goals.

Insights from Early Users
OpenAI collaborated with college students in the ChatGPT Lab for early feedback. Users noted that directing what they wanted to see improved usefulness, leading to enhanced ways to share reactions and guide content selection.
Limitations
The company says Pulse is a preview and may not always get things right. Suggestions can sometimes be outdated or off-target, but ChatGPT remembers your feedback and improves over time.
Future Directions
Pulse is the first step toward a proactive AI assistant. Planned improvements include:
- Integration with more apps
- Timely, context-aware updates throughout the day
- Research, planning, and actionable recommendations based on user direction
OpenAI envisions ChatGPT evolving from a reactive tool to an AI that quietly accelerates tasks and goal progress.
