Gionee, popular Chinese mobile device design company entered into the Indian market back in March with the Dream D1. Now the company has launched several Android smartphones. The latest flagship smartphone is the Elife E5, that was launched back in July. The Elife E5 is the second phone in the Elife series. We reviewed the Elife E3 recently and the Elife E6 that was announced last month is coming to India next week. Beats buys back $265 million of shares and bids good bye to HTC

HTC has been struggling in the smartphone market despite some encouraging HTC One sales. HTC held a 25 percent stake in the popular audio company Beats and that is one of the reasons most of the HTC handsets came with Beats audio. HTC had purchased 50.1 percent of Beats’ shares in 2011 for $300 million. Last year, the music company Beats got back half of that for $150 million and now they have totally got rid of HTC by buying their entire shares back for $265 million.

HTC One mini launching in India soon

HTC announced the One mini, a smaller variant of the HTC One back in July. Now the phone has appeared on the official HTC India website, which indicates that the launch could be expected soon. It packs a 4.3-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD display, powered by a 1.4 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and runs on Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. Microsoft to merge Windows Phone and Windows 8 app stores

At a company meeting today, Microsoft evidently let out news that the Windows Phone Store and Windows Store will be merged into a single app store. Terry Myserson who heads the operating systems group confirmed the news at an internal meeting. First reported by The Verge  and confirmed by our own sources, Myserson confirmed that the changes will appear over the next few releases of Windows and Windows Phone. The next major update for Windows is expected later this year called Windows 8.1.  A similar update for Windows Phone called Windows Phone 8.1 will follow it.

Google Search for iOS gets push notifications for reminders

Google today announced a slew of improvements in its mobile search application to celebrate 15 years of Google Search. The improvements include an update to the iOS app that will bring reminder notifications amongst other features. Some of these features are already available on the Android app. The update will also help enable a seamless search experience across multiple devices and platforms. The search app will now sync across mobile devices and platforms and so a reminder set on one device will reflect on others as well. Users will need to be logged in to their Google account for this.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 European version is region locked

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is making its way into about 149 countries around the world starting 25th, which is just two days back but we already have reports of the European version of the device being region locked to the continent, making it impossible for travelers to use it with a local SIM when abroad. This comes via our friends at Clove UK who have stated this fact on their blog. The LTE version, going by the model name SM-N9005 will be region locked to Europe and will not be able to access other International networks when abroad. This is really weird, especially for unlocked units.

Apple Care+ now covers International Travelers, India included in the list of supported countries

A recent change to the Apple Care+ plan now enables service coverage even when traveling abroad. Just after the announcement of the iPhone 5s and the 5c Apple had raised the Care+ coverage for accidental damage from $49 to $79 and with that news, along comes the info that travelers traveling abroad would be able to avail this service for a phone in any country where Service is possible. And surprise, that list includes India. Currently, the Apple Care+ plan is non-existent here and previously, Apple Care+ used to work only in the home country, so for people buying phones abroad from India, this is good news.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Exynos 5 Octa Benchmarks

The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was announced at IFA earlier this month and was launched in India at a price tag of Rs. 49,900. We brought you the benchmarks of the Snapdragon 800 version yesterday which is available for LTE markets. This version is powered by a 2.3 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974) processor with Adreno 330 GPU. Here are the benchmarks for the Indian version that is powered by a 1.9 GHz Exynos 5420 Octa ( A15 1.9 GHz + A7 1.3 GHz) processor with ARM Mail T628 GPU. The Note 3 packs a 5.7-inch (1920 x 1080 pixels) Full HD Super AMOLED display and runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean). Let’s find out which one is better in various benchmark tests.

Nokia Lumia 1020 Camera Grip and Wireless Charging shell launched for Rs. 7,500 and Rs. 3,200 respectively

The Nokia Lumia 1020 has finally launched in India today, at an event in New Delhi. The 41 Megapixel PureView camera had been doing its victory lap as one of the best camera phones around the world and it has finally reached destination India, alas without a price tag. But along with the Lumia 1020, accessories were also launched, namely the Camera Grip and the Wireless Charging shell. Weirdly enough, the accessories have been priced, with the Camera Grip coming at Rs. 7,500 and the Wireless Charging shell coming in at Rs. 3,200. Nokia has finally launched the Lumia 1020, the company’s latest flagship smartphone as they promised, but they did not announce the price of the device yet. The Lumia 1020 is the first Windows Phone device to feature a 41-megapixel camera sensor. It also has 6 lens optics similar to the Lumia 925 and also comes with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) that was first introduced in the Lumia 920. The Lumia 1020 has Xenon flash to shoot better images in low lighting condition and also LED flash for video recording. Google has updated the YouTube app for Android to version 5.1.10 that brings new video notifications feature that lets you receive notifications for new videos that match your interests. This update also brings promoted video to front and center and also adds advertisement from Google for some videos. YouTube for Android and iOS got a major update last month that brought a lot of new features including watch while you search, play all button in playlist and more. Intex launched the Aqua i7, the company’s flagship Android smartphone earlier this month. The Aqua HD that appeared on the official website earlier this month and went on sale online recently. Nokia Camera App to combine features of Pro Cam and Smart Cam

Nokia launched the Lumia 1020 back in July and the talking point of the phone was its 41MP camera and its Pro Cam application that gave the phone a complete control of the camera. Prior to the Pro Cam on Lumia 1020, Nokia had its signature Smart camera application on the Nokia Lumia 925 that takes a lot of photos at a time and lets you manipulate them.
