Samsung Electronics has acquired SmartThings, a home automation company that builds open platform for the Internet of Things (IoT). It will operate as an independent company within Samsung’s Open Innovation Center group . The team will remain the same and will relocate to a new headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, said CEO of SmartThings, Alex Hawkinson on their official blog. Micromax Canvas Knight Cameo A290, the latest Micromax smartphones in the Canvas series is now available from online retailer Snapdeal. It has a 4.7-inch HD display, powered by a 1.4 GHz Octa-Core MediaTek processor and runs on Android 4.4 (KitKat). It has a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, compared to the 16-megapixel camera on the Canvas Knight, but this has the same 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Obi Mobiles is a relatively new and unknown brand in India. Riding on a media wave created by one of its investors, ex-Apple CEO John Sculley, the newly founded company launched its first ambitious product for the Indian market, a mid range device called the Obi Octopus S520. Sporting a 5 inch HD display, an 8 MP camera and the MediaTek Octa core processor (hence the name), the device is priced at Rs. 11,990, which is less for what it offers. Samsung is all set to launch the Galaxy Note 4, the company’s fourth smartphone in the Note series at the Unpacked 2014 Episode 2 event at IFA on September 3rd. Erafone, an online retailer in Indonesia has listed the Note 4 ahead of official announcement, along with the specifications. Even though most of the specifications of the Note 4 have been leaked already, the listing reveals 4GB RAM and SM-910S and SM-910C , Snapdragon 805 and Exynos 5433 variants that already appeared in benchmarks. Samsung has announced its new Exynos 5 Octa chip, 5430. It is the first Samsung chip to use 20nm HKMG process technology. It is based on ARM big.LITTLE technology and has Heterogeneous Multi-Processing that can run combination of up to eight cores at a time to provide optimum performance, similar to the earlier Exynos 5 Octa chips.
