It was introduced back in August and has a 5-inch 1080p display from JDI, which is slightly raised giving a floating feel, comes with 4G LTE connectivity with support for FDD B3 1800MHz and TDD B40 2300MHz bands for India, is powered by an Octa-Core Snapdragon 615 SoC, has a 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front-facing camera and a fiberglass body and metal accents at the top and bottom of the phone. It is designed by San Francisco-based product studio Ammunition.

Obi Mobiles, backed by John Scully got re-branded to Obi Worldphone back in August. It even introduced two new smartphones – Obi Worldphone SF1 and SJ1.5 designed by San Francisco-based product studio Ammunition. These phones were launched in Vietnam and Dubai recently, today the company said that Obi Worldphone will launch in India this month, but only the Worldphone SF1 is expected. Obi said that it has partnered with Qualcomm, Dolby, Sony, Corning Incorporated, Google, MediaTek, Japan Display, Inc. and Samsung for these smartphones. The Obi Worldphone SF1 has a 5-inch 1080p display from JDI, which is slightly raised giving a floating feel, comes with a 4G LTE connectivity (FDD B3 1800 MHz and TDD B40 2300 MHz) and runs on Android 5.0 (Lollipop) with Obi’s own UI on top. The Obi Alligator S454 and Lava Iris X1 belong to this category, so we decided to compare these smartphones. The Obi Alligator S454 was launched last month for Rs. 6,450 and the Lava Iris X1 was originally launched back in May for Rs. 7,999 and the company relaunched the smartphone in August in 8GB variant for the same price.

How good is the Obi Hornbill S551’s camera?

The low mid range is decidedly a hard-fought battle between manufacturers. Here, on paper specifications win the consumer but most of the times, the results hardly match expectations. The Obi Hornbill costs Rs. 9,250 but has a 13 megapixel camera, which is hardly seen at this price. It is well known that Megapixels don’t always matter, so we are putting it head on with the Xolo Q2100, a phone that is priced slightly higher, to see which comes out as the better stills camera in a tough challenge.
