Jolla to unveil Sailfish OS at Slush conference in Helsinki

Jolla Mobile, the Finnish mobile startup, has announced that it will be showing off its MeeGo based smartphone operating system at the Slush startup conference in Helsinki. The conference is slated to take place from 21-22 November. The operating system has been codenamed Sailfish and details regarding the SDK for the OS will be rolled out around the same time.

PlayStation Mobile goes live on 3rd October, Fujitsu and Sharp added as partners

Sony has just announced at its TGS conference that it plans to launch its much awaited PlayStation Mobile service on 3rd October. The service aims to bring content like PlayStation One games and exclusive new IPs to your mobile phone. Sony is also pushing a brand new PlayStation Mobile SDK to developers for $99.99 annually. The SDK will be available in November.

Nightly builds of Firefox Mobile OS now available

Mozilla has started rolling out nightly builds of its upcoming Firefox Mobile OS for users to download. The OS seems to take a lot of inspiration from iOS and Android in terms of UI. In addition, the icons seem to take some hint from Symbian.

Jolla partners with China’s D.Phone for distribution

Emerging Finnish smartphone maker Jolla has partnered with Chinese distributor D.Phone to bring its devices to the very important Chinese market. D.Phone has the largest retail network in China and has strategic partnerships with China Unicom, China Mobile and China Telecom.

Jolla launched by ex-Nokians to carry on the MeeGo torch

Nokia’s stint with MeeGo might be over but the community is not going to let go of the promising OS. Ex-Nokians who were part of the development team have banded together to form Jolla which is Finnish for ‘rescue sail boat’ which is clearly a tongue in cheek reference to the burning ship memo by   Nokia’s Elop.

Sony renames Playstation Suite to Playstation Mobile ,brings HTC on board

At E3 , Sony has just renamed its mobile gaming center from Playstation Suite to Playstation Mobile signifying a shift towards embracing more OEMs. In addition to the rebranding , Sony has announced HTC as its first partner to bring Playstation Mobile certified handsets.

Samsung showcases the 4GB LPDDR3 RAM at ISSCC

Samsung has been bringing out loads of mobile hardwares lately, and it is being really profitable for them, their Exynos line of processors were a great success and now they have come up with the first 4GB LPDDR3 RAM which two times faster than the current being used in the mobile devices. This new RAM was unveiled at ISSCC expo.

[Breaking] Sony buys out Ericsson’s 50% share in Sony Ericsson

We’re still waiting for more information regarding this but Reuters reports that Sony has bought out Ericsson’s 50% share in the Sony Ericsson joint venture. Sony Ericsson has recently completed 10 years of the JV and started off making feature phones and the iconic Walkman , Cybershot series of devices.

Samsung invests 70 million USD in Noida Mobile Manufacturing Facility

Samsung Electronics has just made an announcement that it’s investing USD 70 million  in the Noida mobile manufacturing facility. Seems like India is one of the top 3 mobile markets for Samsung globally.This facility in Noida is Samsung’s 6th manufacturing unit outside Korea and employs over 4000 people. This facility in Noida is also capable of handling TVs , Refrigerators , ACs and Washing Machines in addition to mobile phones. Surprisingly Samsung also has a manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur , Chennai where Nokia also has a pretty big factory. Press Release after the break .
