Intex today introduced the latest smartphone in its Aqua series. Called the Intex Aqua i5 HD, the phone isn’t really going to be a breakthrough for the budget segment but it does bring with it a balanced outlook between price, performance and looks. Intex started teasing their ‘Touch and Type QWERTY’ phone earlier this week on their Facebook page. Few hours back it has posted an image, but the image in the background could be a mock-up. It has revealed that the phone would have a 3.5-inch touch screen with a physical QWERTY keyboard, 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and run on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean). The mid range smartphone market in India is insanely competitive to say the least. We have been seeing tons of companies make affordable phones with some of the specifications that are usually only reserved for the top end phones. But due to the same cut throat competition, we have also been seeing many similar devices, with common attributes like the display and the chipset. In that sense, the current market trend is this – a 5 inch 1080p display and a MediaTek 6589T processor. The Gionee Elife E6, the Micromax Canvas Turbo and of course, the Intex Aqua i7 are all part of this trend, improving upon the 720p screen based phones earlier. But is it really worth the effort and upgrade? We find out in our review and are going to see if the Aqua i7 delivers the usual promise of “more for less”.
Intex is fairly a newcomer in the Indian Smartphone market and it started launching Android devices much after Micromax or Karbonn, but now they have caught up with the lot by releasing MediaTek based devices under the Aqua range. We saw the cheapest Android 4.2.2 phone from the same company, and it even launched its flagship 1080p device – the Aqua i7. But today we have another 720p entry from Intex in the form of the Aqua HD. It sports a 4.7 inch HD screen and a 13 megapixel camera with an interesting design and build quality. Intex has launched India’s first phone for visually impaired, Intex Vision. This phone was unveiled by National Association for the Blind (NAB). This is a dual sim GSM phone that has braille keypad with large keys that helps visually impaired people recognize the digits and talking keypad that reads out the numbers when pressed.
