Lenovo K900 powered by Intel Clovertrail+ chipset revealed

Lenovo has revealed its latest smartphone running an Intel chip over at CES in Las Vegas. The Lenovo K900 runs on the Clovertrail + platform with the specific chip speculated to be an Atom Z2580 clocked at 2Ghz. The smartphone is equipped with a 5.5 inch 1080p IPS display presumably manufactured by Sharp. There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which can be further expanded via the microSD card slot.

Android 4.1.2 update rolling out for Galaxy Camera

Delivering on their promise of providing Android 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Camera, Samsung has today flipped the switch for the update and are pushing it to devices around the world. Our own unit just received the update over the air. Users shouldn’t expect too much in terms of new features from the update which mostly contains bug fixes.

Highest number of Android and iOS devices get activated on Christmas Day

Looks like everyone did wait till Christmas day to open their presents, as it has been reported that Android and iOS device activation was the highest ever on December 25th. According to Flurry analytics, 17.4 million Android and iOS devices were activated on Christmas day compared to an average of 4 million activations on any other day, which is an increase of a whopping 332%.

Mobile subscriber base in China crosses 1.104 billion with revenues over $116.26 billion in 2012

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published statistics which reveal that the country’s mobile subscriber base has crossed 1.104 billion users as of November 2012. This is an increment of close to 118 million subscribers over the course of 11 months. The national telecom business volume has gone up 11.4% over the same period last year with a total of 1.18601 trillion yuan.

Approximately 82% of China’s population uses a mobile phone with about 20% of that (approximately 220 million) using 3G equipped devices. The Chinese smartphone market remains one of the most rapidly increasing territories and will top the combined US iOS & Android install base in 2013. There are about 167 million iOS and Android devices in use. Gartner had previously reported that Lenovo is set to steal the spot for number one manufacturer from Samsung in 2013. With the amount of innovation being seen in China by the likes of Huawei, ZTE amongst others, we expect Android based smartphones to help increase the smartphone userbase multifold over the next year.

Huawei Ascend Mate with 6.1 inch 1080p screen spotted ahead of CES launch

Expected to be unveiled at CES in January, Huawei’s newest smartphone was shown off by Richard Yu. The Chairman of devices at Huawei flaunted the device at a store in Guangzhou yesterday. Called the Ascend Mate, the Android powered smartphone has a massive 6.1 inch 1080p screen with 361ppi.

Blackberry 10 to launch with 70,000 apps in App world

Apps have become important for every mobile operating system, thanks to Apple and iOS, both Andorid and iOS now have more than half a million applications and one of the places where Blackberry failed at their O.S and smartphones before was the category of apps available. Now, Frank Boulben, the CMO of RIM has stated that consumers can expect more than 70,000 apps for the Blackberry 10 at launch.

Now 70,000 applications is really good news, but it also matters whether these applications are actually useful or are just useless. The quality of this application also matters, as developers have already shifted to platforms which is more popular like Android and iOS, so it is important to know whether they will devote time to make the experience of users better or not. Blackberry 10 is set to launch on Jan 30 2013, and it is a very important launch for RIM which will decided their survival. Karbonn A30 smartphone with 5.9″ screen launched at Rs. 10,990

Karbonn, the maker of entry level Android smartphones, has launched its newest device called the Karbonn A30. The dual SIM handset runs on Android 4.0 ICS. The smartphone is powered by a 1Ghz dual core processor which promises improved gaming performance and a better web browsing experience. While we’re a bit short on details here, we expect the phone to be powered by Mediatek’s dual core solution.
