Update — January 31, 2020: realme today confirmed that the phone will launch with realme UI out of the box, so this could be the most affordable phone running Android 10 when it launches next week.

Microsoft Xbox has announced a new bug bounty program in an attempt to use the public’s help to identify critical bugs in the Xbox software ecosystem. The bounties will be decided according to the severity of the bug, its security impact and the quality of report submitted by the researcher (bounty hunter).

Worldwide smartphone shipments decreased 1.1% year over year in Q4 2019, and it was down 2.3% YoY for the whole 2019, according to preliminary data from the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker. In total, companies shipped a 368.8 million smartphones during Q4 2019, and the total shipments for 2019 was 1371 million. The report claims Apple will release several new products including Ultra Wideband tags, high-end wireless headphones, a 4.7-inch iPhone SE successor, refreshed iPad Pro models, and refreshed MacBook Pro and/or MacBook Air models.

In this year’s biggest jury verdict from this year, Apple Inc. and Broadcom Inc. have been ordered by a California Court to pay a collective $1.1 billion in damages for patent infringement. The plaintiff in this case is California Institute of Technology (Cal Tech.) who claimed that Apple broke patent laws by using Broadcom Wi-Fi chips in their devices.

Unicode, which is the international consortium that dictates computing industry standards has released its Emoji 13.0 standard for the year 2020. It includes 117 new emoji such as a smiling face with tear, Polar bear, a pinched finger, including 55 gender and skin-tone variants.

LG Electronics has reported revenues of 16.06 trillion won (US$ 13.65 billion) for the fourth quarter that ended December 31, 2019, which is up 2.3% compared to the same quarter last year. It posted profits of 101.8 billion won (US$ 86.5 million), up 26.1% YoY, while net profit was down 953% YoY to 849.8 billion won (US$ 717 billion). This is due to losses in its equity ties with LG display, in which it has 37.9% stake and sluggish smartphone sales. LG Display is said to post more than 1 trillion won in losses in 2019, according to analysts, and we should know the exact figures when it posts the results on Friday. Facebook has reported a good year for 2019 as it released its Q4 2019 earnings report. The total earnings posted for this quarter was $21082 million which amounts to a YoY growth of about 24.64% from Q4 2018. The net income on the other hand, was reported at $7349 million which calculates to an increase of approx. 6.78% YoY.
