Motiongraph app launched by Sony DNA, lets you create cinemagraphs on your Android phone

Sony’s Digital Network Applications division has pushed out a new application for Android devices which lets you create motion enabled images. The motiongraph smartphone application creates images in which part of the image moves like a video while the rest remains stationary creating a surreal effect.

Oppo Find 5 with 5-inch 1080p display, quad-core processor announced

Oppo has today announced its latest smartphone, the Find 5. The smartphone features high end specifications including a 5″ 1080p IPS screen with 441PPI. Internally you’ll find a Qualcomm APQ8064 Snapdragon S4 Processor clocked at 1.5Ghz. Coupled with 2GB of RAM, you won’t find it lacking in terms of performance.

STMicro quitting ST-Ericsson mobile chipset venture

Reuters reports that STMicroelectronics plans to cut costs by quitting its joint venture with Ericsson. The ST-Ericsson mobile chipset venture made losses equivalent to $841 million last year and has been steadily losing market share.

HTC Windows Phone 8X gets new SMS features and ‘keep on WiFi’ via update

Microsoft is pushing out an OTA update for the HTC Windows Phone 8X which will add some much needed features to the flagship device. Windows Phone users have always complained about the WiFi switching off as soon as you turn off the screen, this has been fixed or rather made optional after the update. Users can now now opt to keep the WiFi switched on even when the screen is off.

Called the “Portico” update, It also adds new SMS centric features. Users now have the ability to reject calls with an SMS, it is not possible to select all SMS messages to mass delete. A last feature is the ability to create SMS drafts so that you can compose a message and send it later. HTC Butterfly announced for global markets

The international variant of the Droid DNA and HTC Butterfly J have been announced today for the global audience. The phone which will be called the HTC Butterfly is one of the first devices with a ful HD display. The 5″ screen with 1080p resolution results in a mind blowing pixel density of  440ppi.

Huawei working on 6.1 inch smartphone, to be more powerful than the Galaxy Note 2

Speaking on the Chinese social network, Weibo, Huawei Senior Vice President Yu Chengdong confirmed that Huawei is working on a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 competitor. The phone which has been rumored for a while is expected to ship with an absolutely massive 6.1 inch full HD display. The phone has been rumored to be called the Ascend Mate.

Sony Xperia SL Review

When we reviewed the Xperia S earlier this year, we felt that it was a new start for Sony. Continuing its tradition of good design, packing an excellent display we quite liked the Xperia S. However the pace of the mobile industry is such that it has been far out-specced since its launch. Following the lead of HTC with its One X refresh, Sony too has launched a new updated version of the Xperia S dubbed the Xperia SL.

Not much has changed in the Xperia SL externally as it retains its beautiful hardware. The screen is still quite nice while the processor has been bumped up to a Dual Core Snapdragon S3 processor clocked at 1.7Ghz compared to the 1.5Ghz processor on the Xperia S.  Keep reading for our full impressions. Nokia Lumia 620 unveiled, to be available starting January for $250

Nokia just introduced its latest Windows Phone 8 handset at the Le Web Conference in Paris. Marking the lower end of the Windows Phone 8 range the phone will be offered in seven colors and supports exchangeable shells in gloss and matte finishes depending on the color you chose.

Apple launches iTunes Music & Video Store in India

Apple has finally introduced its Music and Video store in India giving users here another avenue to get hold of content legally. Pricing is quite competent with individual tracks being priced between Rs 12-15 per track and most albums ranging from Rs. 110 to Rs. 300 depending on how old the album is and its popularity.

Movie pricing varies between Rs. 290 to Rs. 500 for SD or HD movies. You also have an option to rent them at Rs. 80 for Bollywood content while International movies will be charged at Rs. 120. Users can purchase and download music videos for priced between Rs. 15 and Rs 20 depending on content.

The Bollywood content is looking quite solid though if you’re looking for a good international collection especially movies, you might be disappointed. The iTunes Match service which lets you match your music collection to the cloud has also been launched here at Rs. 1200.

 

 

Toshiba introduces 13 MP TK437 sensor with enhanced low light shooting capabilities

Toshiba has just announced that it is launching its new CMOS based sensor which will be part of its next generation range of camera sensors. The 13 megapixel TK437 sensor packs in backside illumination which will help low light performance and improve noise reduction. Toshiba has also integrated color noise reduction (CNR) to develop its newest CMOS image sensor that fits into an 8.5mm x 8.5mm size camera module

Windows Phone 7.8 update coming in ‘early 2013’

Microsoft just announced that the long awaited Windows Phone 7.8 update for existing handsets will roll out only in 2013. The most obvious part of the update is the new homescreen which will feature the same resizable live tiles as on Windows Phone 8 running smartphones.
