Huawei Ascend Mate with 6.1 inch 1080p screen spotted ahead of CES launch

Expected to be unveiled at CES in January, Huawei’s newest smartphone was shown off by Richard Yu. The Chairman of devices at Huawei flaunted the device at a store in Guangzhou yesterday. Called the Ascend Mate, the Android powered smartphone has a massive 6.1 inch 1080p screen with 361ppi.

RIM and Nokia enter into patent licensing agreement

To resolve existing patent litigation between RIM and Nokia, the two companies have decided to enter into a licensing agreement. Nokia had previously demanded  a sales injunction on BlackBerry over the Finnish company’s patents around WiFi networks. While the specific terms of the agreement remain confidential, the financial structure will include a one time payment and on-going payments to Nokia.

RIM announces Q3 earnings: $114 million net loss, $2.7 billion revenue, sales down 51% YoY

Blackberry manufacturer, RIM, today announced its third quarter earnings report. The company has reported losses of $114 million which is equivalent to $0.22 per share. Revenues were $2.7 billion during the quarter ending December 2012. The company has once again managed to beat analyst predictions who estimated losses to to the tune of $0.35 per share.

BlackBerry Z10 pictured in black, white in leaked marketing material

Another day and yet another image of the upcoming BlackBerry 10 based handset has turned up on the internet. Called the BlackBerry Z10, the company is expected to eschew using its traditional four digit model number naming scheme. The full touch smartphone will run the QNX based BB10 OS and is expected to be revealed on 30th January at an event in New York.

Google reveals YouTube Capture app for the iPhone, iPod Touch

Google just launched a dedicated YouTube camera application for iOS users. Called YouTube Capture, the app lets you record and instantly share a video clip to YouTube right from within its interface. The video can also be shared on a range of mobile networks straight from the app itself.

HTC Windows Phone 8S finally hitting stores in India at Rs. 19,359

The long awaited entry level Windows Phone 8 handset, the HTC 8S, is now available in India at a price point of Rs. 19,359. Online retailer Saholic has now listed the handset as available. The HTC 8S follows the 8X which has been quite a popular handset partly due to the lack of competition in the WP8 segment.

Dropbox 2.0 with updated interface, new photos tab released for iOS

Dropbox today released an updated iOS application for its extremely popular cloud-synchronization service. Responding to user demand, the application serves not just for browsing files but also makes for a media viewer for cloud based files. A dedicated Photos tab takes advantage of the automatic uploads facility built in for Dropbox on mobile devices organizes photos by the time taken.

Google pulls support for Exchange ActiveSync as part of winter cleaning

Google has announced its plans to do a bit of ‘Winter Cleaning‘ and as a part of it, the company will stop supporting Exchange ActiveSync for Gmail, Contacts and Calendar. Access will only be provided via IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAC which means that legacy devices such as Symbian phones  will no longer be able to connect to Google’s services.

Karbonn A30 smartphone with 5.9″ screen launched at Rs. 10,990

Karbonn, the maker of entry level Android smartphones, has launched its newest device called the Karbonn A30. The dual SIM handset runs on Android 4.0 ICS. The smartphone is powered by a 1Ghz dual core processor which promises improved gaming performance and a better web browsing experience. While we’re a bit short on details here, we expect the phone to be powered by Mediatek’s dual core solution.

Facebook for Android goes native, Now twice as fast

Facebook for Android has always  struggled with performance issues and particularly laggy scrolling due to its dependence on webviews instead of native code. The company has now finally rolled out a native build of the app for Android which promises to double the performance of the application. The application is expected to be twice as fast at looking at photos and opening up the timeline.

Google has no plans to build Windows 8, WP8 apps

Hoping to use an official Gmail or Youtube app on your brand new Windows Phone device ? You might be out of luck as the company is not too keen on bringing its products to Microsoft’s mobile offering.
