Wikipedia Nearby for mobile web launched, shows location-based information

Wikipedia Nearby

WikimediaFoundation has launched Nearby feature for mobile web that shows Wikipedia articles near your location that would let you explore the nearby places and view images. The photo upload features was launched for mobile web back in March. You can log in using your Wikipedia credentials to upload photos. Now you can also take part in improving details about your nearby location by adding an image to the article if it’s missing. You can notice the missing image with a camera icon next to the articles. Huawei Ascend W2 press image surfaces

Press image of the Huawei Ascend W2 has surfaced online. The phone appeared on a Chinese forum last year and specs of the phone appeared last month. The Huawei Ascend W1, the company’s first Windows Phone 8 device leaked last October, which as unveiled at the CES 2013 earlier this year. Windows Phone 8 sync app for the desktop comes out of beta, adds new features

The Windows Phone desktop app for Windows Phone 8 devices has finally come out of the beta, after over six months in preview form. The app, which is used to manage files and sync media with your Windows Phone 8 device has been hardly a replacement for the excellent Zune solution for the earlier generation Windows Phone 7 devices. But with Windows Phone 8 adding the MTP protocol for file management, the Zune app has been useless, while the Windows Phone app, with its limited features, proved of little utility. Anyway, the app has now added more features and is now available for download, in case you are craving for a decent sync app for Windows Phone 8, and don’t want to go down the explorer route.

MediaTek announces new MT8125 Quad Core chip for tablets

MediaTek, the well known chip manufacturer, famous for the low cost powerful SoCs, has launched another SoC, codenamed the MT8125 specifically aimed at tablets. The tablet market as we know is currently dominated by the smaller ones, that are of the mid range segment, driving volume for the overall market, according to IDC. At this crucial time, MediaTek seems to want to take advantage, by releasing its own solution for tablets after the success of its MT6589 Quad Core chips in various phones in the low-mid range. The Quad Core Cortex A7 processor will support frequencies upto 1.5 GHz and will be powered by the PowerVR Series5XT graphics.

LG Optimus G Pro to roll out in Asia including India in June

We reported last month that the Optimus G Pro would launch in India in June. Now, LG has officially announced that the phone would be released in Asian markets including India in June. The LG Optimus G Pro was unveiled in February and went on sale in Korea on February 21st. The Optimus G Pro (L-04E) went on sale in Japan last month. Samsung has officially announced the Galaxy S4 mini, successor of the Galaxy S3 mini ahead of the Samsung Premier 2013 scheduled for June 20th in London. It has a 4.3-inch (960 × 540 pixels) qHD Super AMOLED display, powered by a 1.7 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android 4.2.2. Jelly Bean with Samsung’s own Nature UX. It packs a 8-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 1.9-megapixel HD front-facing camera. It has 1.5GB of RAM and packs a 1900 mAh battery. It comes with 4G LTE, or 3G HSPA+ (GT-I9190) or 3G Dual SIM (GT-I9192) depending on the market. BlackBerry Q10 Launching in India on June 6th in Delhi

BlackBerry showed off the BlackBerry Q10 alongside the first BlackBerry 10 device the Z10 during the BlackBerry 10 launch event back in January this year. The Q10 is already on sale in the UK where I got my hands on one. Now the 2nd BlackBerry 10 device is making its way to India. The company has sent to invites for a launch event in Delhi on June 6th and is expected to announce the Q10 for the Indian market.

The tablet has a 10.1-inch HD (1280 x 800 pixels) display, powered by a 1.2 GHz Quad Core Huawei Hi-Silicon Processor with 16 Core GPU and runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean). It has a 3-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera. It has 3G support via SIM card slot, Dolby Surround Sound and packs a 6600 mAh battery that would offer 6 hours of continuous gaming or 8 hours of continuous video playback. Lava International has launched the E-Tab XTRON+, successor of the E-Tab XTRON that was launched back in February. It has a has a 7-inch (1024 x 600 pixels) capactive multi-touch IPS display and is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual-core processor similar to its predecessor, but this runs on Android 4.2.2. (Jelly Bean), has a HDMI port, 2-megapixel rear camera and a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) front-facing camera.

Tablet shipments expected to exceed total PC shipments in 2015

IDC, the analysis company that analyses several markets every quarter has released a report that Tablet shipments are all set to overtake total PC shipments in 2015. With a rapidly growing tablet market, IDC notes that the landscape is changing after the flood of low cost Android tablets with screen sizes less than 8 inches, which might contribute as much as 57% of the total tablet market in 2017, while the rest is constituted by bigger tablets, mostly the iPad. The iPad mini too might be a proven driver in the sales of small tablets.

Samsung would unveil the Galaxy S4 mini at the Samsung Premier 2013 scheduled for June 20th, according to a recent report from The Wall Street Journal. This coincides with the rumors that surfaced back in March. The Galaxy S4 mini was confirmed from the official App Store listing recently. Xolo Q1000 goes official, 5 inch HD display, Quad Core processor and Android 4.2 for Rs. 14,999

Initially spotted online, the Xolo Q1000 has finally gone official, with a price tag of Rs. 14,999/- Powered by a Quad Core processor, the Xolo Q1000 has a 5 inch 1280×720 HD display, which seems to the be the benchmark of all the mid range phablet-like devices in the Indian market these days. The display is similar to the one on the Xolo A1000 launched earlier this year, and the 1.2 GHz Quad Core processor and GPU are similar to that of the Xolo Q800. Consistent with other recent Android phone releases from other brands, the Xolo Q1000 is also running on Android 4.2 Jellybean, with lockscreen widgets and notification toggles.

Tata Docomo, one of the many leading operators in India, has partnered with Opera, the browser company, for providing a customized co-branded Opera Mini browser for all of its users in India. Armed with server side data compression technology, which the company pioneered, it provides up to 90% compression and lets you browse with much lesser impact on your mobile data balance. The co-branded browser is available for download at m.opera.com on all the supported mobile devices. That means everything except Windows Phone, we guess.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z launched in India for a price of Rs.46,990

Sony launched its Xperia Tablet Z at the Mobile World Congress and it recently went on pre-order for about Rs.44,990 at several online retailers in India, but now, at a launch event in New Delhi, Sony has finally launched it here, for a price of Rs. 46,990. Boasting a brilliant 10.1 inch 1920×1200 display, the tablet aims to be the big screened point of interaction for all of Sony’s services like Music unlimited and Movies. We had went hands on with the device back in February at the MWC event and were left quite impressed. But with a steep price, will it find its way into people’s hands? Only time will tell.
