Asus had introduced the original Fonepad at MWC 2013 earlier this year and the Fonepad saw a slight bump in the specifications sometime during summer. Asus just posted and removed a video ad for the yet another refresh of the Fonepad.
Asus announced the PadFone infinity which is the 3rd generation PadFone at MWC 2013 earlier this year in Barcelona. Now the handset has gone on sale in some markets such as Asus’s home market Taiwan. As you might be aware I am right now in Taipei for Computex 2013 and managed to get my hands on the Padfone Infinity which is currently on sale here for around 20990 Taiwanese dollars or Rs.40000 approx. Check out the unboxing video below featuring the HTC One and PadFone 2 as well. We managed to only get the phone part of the Padfone , the tablet part or the Padfone Station was not available.
The ASUS Fonepad has been in our labs for quite some time, and in our review, you might have noticed that we were disappointed with the Fonepad’s performance. It even suffered in our gaming performance tests. But if you are still waiting on buying one, then good news awaits you. ASUS has just announced and launched a new Fonepad with better specs. The “Lexington” Intel Z2420 chipset has been swapped with the better performing Intel Z2460, and the 16GB internal storage, which gave us only 11GB of usable memory has been doubled to 32GB. All the other specs remain intact though, with the display still highly reflective, we guess. But still, a good thing that ASUS heard customer feedback and swiftly fixed it. However, there is a price to pay for the new version of Fonepad. It will be 60$ higher than before, a good 3,300 INR higher in our case.
We have been comparing the ASUS Fonepad with various small tablets here at our labs. We recently compared it with the Galaxy Note 8.0 aka Note 510 and found it quite different from the latter. However, in this comparison, we feel that both these devices are currently pegged head-to-head. In terms of target audience as well as similarities and functionalities, both these tablets aim for the budget calling tablet segment. Yes, we are talking about the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 310. So, which is going to win you over? Read on to find out, and before all of that, watch our detailed comparison video below –
The ASUS Fonepad and the Samsung Galaxy Note 510(also called the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0) are one of a kind tablets. Both launched at MWC, with similar functionality, but with different markets in mind. Carrying the Note brand, the Galaxy Note 8.0 or the Note 510 as it is called in India, has stylus features and all the Samsung goodness associated with all its Note products, while the Fonepad is ASUS’ first entry into the calling tablet market with it squarely aimed at the Tab 2 310’s price range while offering more performance per rupee ratio. By design and looks, it is clearly a Nexus 7 in another form. Between these two tablets, we are going to see which one is better and which one might suit you the best in case you are in confusion. Before diving into the in-depth text comparison, here is our video of the same –
