Huawei Honor brand today introduced Honor 8 Lite, a cheaper version of last year’s flagship Honor 8 smartphone in Finland. The main difference is that this has a 12-megapixel single rear camera instead of dual 12-megapixel rear cameras on the Honor 8. This also comes with a less powerful Kirin 655 processor, similar to the Honor 6X instead of Honor 8’s Kirin 950 SoC, but this runs Android 7.0 (Nougat) with EMUI 5.0 out of the box. Huawei’s Honor brand launched the Honor 6X smartphone last month in India starting at Rs. 12,999. As promised, the smartphone will go on sale exclusively on Amazon.in in the first flash sale starting today at 2PM. Those who have not registered for today’s sale can register for the next sale on February 9th till Midnight of 7th February.

MIT demos a smartwatch app that can detect your emotions

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has a shown off a demo of a wearable AI system that can predict if a conversation is happy, sad, or neutral based on a person’s speech patterns and vitals. “Coupled with audio and vital-sign data, deep-learning system could someday serve as a “social coach” for people with anxiety or Asperger’s,” says MIT. Xiaomi launched its most expected Redmi Note 4 smartphone in India last month starting Rs. 9999. Only the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants were available in the first two sales on Flipkart and the first sale on mi.com. Xiaomi has announced that the 2GB RAM version will be available for sale for the first time on mi.com tomorrow, February 3rd at 12PM along with the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. Expect a huge demand as usual since it is the first time the 2GB RAM version is going on sale in the country. Apple tops Samsung as top smartphone vendor in Q4 2016, record 1.47 billion smartphones shipped in 2016 – IDC

Apple has beat Samsung to claim the top position as the top smartphone vendor based on shipments in the fourth quarter of 2016, according to a report by Research Firm IDC (International Data Corporation). Huawei P10 Plus with 5.5-inch Quad HD curved screen, iris scanner and ring flash surfaces in renders

First render of the Huawei’s P10 smartphone surfaced last year. Now renders of the P10 Plus, the top-end version of the smartphone has surfaced in China. This reveals a 5.5-inch Quad HD curved glass screen and possibly a iris scanner along with ring flash on the back. The fingerprint sensor is present on the back, still there is a home button below the display.

Apple reports record $78.4 billion revenue in FY Q1 2017, 78.3 million iPhones sold

Apple has reported all-time record quarterly revenue of $78.4 billion with a net profit of $17.89 billion in their earnings for the financial year Q1 2017 that ended December 31, 2016. Revenues were up 3.29% year-over-year driven by very strong product mix and the success of iPhone 7 Plus, but profit was down 2.77% YoY. Apple reported all-time record quarterly earnings per diluted share of $3.36.

Samsung MWC 2017 event scheduled for February 26, Galaxy Tab S3 expected

Samsung has finally sent out invites for its event at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 in Barcelona this month, which is scheduled for February 26th. Samsung already confirmed that the Galaxy S8 will not be introduced at the MWC and will debut at a separate event later, which is rumored to be set for March. The teaser in the invite shows a tablet’s home button which could be the rumored Galaxy Tab S3 that was expected to be introduced at the IFA last year. Telstra launches world’s first commercial Gigabit LTE Network in Sydney

Telstra, Ericsson, Qualcomm and NETGEAR has introduced the world’s first commercial Gigabit LTE network and device. Australian operator Telstra confirmed at the Gigabit LTE Experience event in Sydney that their Gigabit LTE service has launched in select state capital city CBDs, with more to follow. This was demoed in Nighthawk M1 Mobile Router (MR1100). Telstra was the first globally to launch 600Mbps download speeds back in September 2015. Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 smartphone with Snapdragon 625 in India earlier this month starting at Rs. 9999. It is a minor upgrade compared to last year’s Redmi Note 3 since the display, design and few features remain the same. However, there are a lot of components that go into making the device what that might not be revealed on a regular specs sheet. Few months back there was a report that said Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular were gearing up to launch VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) services to take on Reliance Jio who launched pan-India 4G LTE services with VoLTE (Voice Over LTE) back in September last year. Idea Cellular at an event to launch ‘Digital Idea’ yesterday said that  it will launch VoLTE services for its customers in all of its 4G Circles within this year.
