Otterbox Defender Case for HTC One X Review

Otterbox is well known for its Defender and Commuter series of cases which provide class leading protection to your devices. The 3 piece cases are designed to withstand accidental drops and much more. Today we take a look at the Otterbox Defender Case for the HTC One X.

Packaging

The Otterbox Defender Case ships in a minimalist package and includes the parts of the case places in a blister pack.

Pictorial instructions are printed inside the box which makes it easy to figure out how to install the case. The Defender Case for the HTC One X includes three pieces as we mentioned earlier. A snap on polycarbonate shell covers the smartphone and provides a basic level of protection. Next up is a silicon outer layer that provides a secure fit and encloses the polycarbonate shell.

A two part polycarbonate shell fits snugly on the phone. The top portion is a clear protective layer which allows users to access the touchscreen. The two plastic shells snap together around the phone.

The touchscreen layer is conductive and there is no loss in sensitivity. On the other hand, it can be a bit hard to pull down the notifications bar because of the plastic tab on top. The transparent layer isn’t the clearest one out there and this might be an issue for a few users. Like matte screen protectors, there is a bit of grain on the layer because of a membrane glued onto the inner edges of the shell.

All ports on the device are protected by flaps. The heavy duty silicon skin protects the edges of the phone. It also improves the grip of the handset because of the rubbery finish at the back. When we last reviewed an Otterbox case, it was a dust magnet and the company has worked on this. The new material is much less prone to attract dust. On the flip side, the silicon material does take scratches fairly easily. During our testing the silicon ended up attracting more than a few scratches. It doesn’t look good but hey, the case did its job!

The Otterbox Defender case for the HTC One X ships with a belt clip holster made of toughened polycarbonate. The kickstand makes a loud noise while rotating and you’ll probably want to avoid adjusting it too much. The clip can rotate 360 degrees in either direction and snaps into place. The cool thing about the holster case is that it can also be used as a kickstand case.

The case provides access to all the ports and has openings for the microphone while not getting in the way of the speakers. The kickstand makes it a very convenient way to use the One X as a speakerphone or for making video calls from your desk. You can buy the Otterbox case and other phone cases for your HTC One X from MobileFun by clicking the link.
