Lenovo has revealed its latest smartphone running an Intel chip over at CES in Las Vegas. The Lenovo K900 runs on the Clovertrail + platform with the specific chip speculated to be an Atom Z2580 clocked at 2Ghz. The smartphone is equipped with a 5.5 inch 1080p IPS display presumably manufactured by Sharp. There is 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which can be further expanded via the microSD card slot.

ZTE just revealed its latest smartphone, the Grand S at CES. Equipped with a 5inch 1080p display which is fast becoming the norm in high end handsets, the phone runs on a 1.7Ghz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip. The OS of choice here is Android 4.1 JellyBean. A 13MP camera is found over at the back which is capable of recording video in 1080p. A 2MP camera is located at the front for video conferencing.
Internal specs also include 2GB of RAM and 16GB of built in storage which can be further expanded with a microSD card. The handset is particularly thin and measures just 6.9mm. Making a handset that thin means that the company had to make sacrifices and the battery life suffers. We’re not sure how well the 1780 mAh battery will be able to keep up with that high resolution display. We’ll be bringing you our hands on impressions with the ZTE Grand S shortly.
The Economic Times reports that there’s a tax raid going on at Nokia India’s plant at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. The team of tax officials are conducting investigations at the plant as well the Finnish company’s offices in Chennai. Officials suspect tax evasion to the tune of Rs. 3000 crore.
Delivering on their promise of providing Android 4.1.2 for the Galaxy Camera, Samsung has today flipped the switch for the update and are pushing it to devices around the world. Our own unit just received the update over the air. Users shouldn’t expect too much in terms of new features from the update which mostly contains bug fixes.

Spice today announced its latest product, the Stellar Pad Mi-1010 tablet. The tablet is equipped with an HD IPS display and is powered by a 1.5Ghz dual core processor. There’s also a quad core GPU on board. The tablet is one of the few models running Jellybean 4.1 in India as of now. The oft leaked next generation Sony devices have once again been seen in a leaked press shot. The glamour shot shows the highly anticipated flagship level device from Sony called the Xperia Z. Also known as the Yuga, the smartphone will be powered by Android Jellybean.
Toronto based Research in Motion, maker of the BlackBerry smartphones will be showing off its next generation offering at an event on 30th January 2013 but devices based on the BlackBerry 10 operating system have already been leaked. In the latest set of images we get a clear look at what will be RIM’s BlackBerry 10 based QWERTY equipped smartphone.
It has been hinted more than once that video chat will be making its way to BBM once BlackBerry 10 rolls out. Alongside the Sony Yuga or Xperia Z, we expect the company to reveal at least one more device at the upcoming trade show. If the latest rumors are to be believed then Sony will be showing off the C560X at CES in January 2013.
Samsung’s cross platform chat application, ChatON, has received a major update bringing the version number to 2.0.5. The app serves as a competitor to the extremely popular WhatsApp and Asia based competitors like WeChat.
RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 based devices are no secret and have shown up more than a few times. Today, we got a glimpse at what might be the first QWERTY equipped device running BlackBerry OS 10. Named the “BlackBerry X10”, the handset brings a Bold 9900 inspired design to the struggling smartphone manufacturer’s next generation line up.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has published statistics which reveal that the country’s mobile subscriber base has crossed 1.104 billion users as of November 2012. This is an increment of close to 118 million subscribers over the course of 11 months. The national telecom business volume has gone up 11.4% over the same period last year with a total of 1.18601 trillion yuan.
Approximately 82% of China’s population uses a mobile phone with about 20% of that (approximately 220 million) using 3G equipped devices. The Chinese smartphone market remains one of the most rapidly increasing territories and will top the combined US iOS & Android install base in 2013. There are about 167 million iOS and Android devices in use. Gartner had previously reported that Lenovo is set to steal the spot for number one manufacturer from Samsung in 2013. With the amount of innovation being seen in China by the likes of Huawei, ZTE amongst others, we expect Android based smartphones to help increase the smartphone userbase multifold over the next year.
