Facebook for Android 3.7 Beta

Facebook has updated the Android Beta app to version 3.7 that brings lot of new features including the most need, post and comment editing features, icons with action status update and more. The  new action and icon status updates yet was released for iPhone and iPad in the version 6.2 update back in June. Facebook started the Beta program back in June. Both the 3.5 and 3.6 Betas brought only bug fixes and improvements. Google Drive 2.0 for iPhone and iPad brings a new design, Quick preview and more

Google Drive 2.0 for iPhone and iPad

Google has updated the Drive app for iPhone and iPad to version 2.0 that brings a lot of features including a new design with new grid view, previews and lotes more. Google Drive for Android got these features back in May. You can also switch between the new thumbnail view and the traditional list view, copy the link for any Drive file to share it easily, new details page makes moving the file a Drive folders and  sharing easy. EVLeaks, the guy known for most leaks these days has revealed yet another interesting bit of information today, pertaining to the future of Windows Phone. On the day of the huge Microsoft-Nokia announcement, this leak comes as something to look forward to, but then after taking a single glance at it will be quite the opposite of a reaction. Yes, what you see above in the leaked image is an indirect confirmation of the existence of Nokia Lumia 1520 codenamed “bandit” and a quick look at the cluttered look of the Windows Phone GDR3’s 1080p supported start screen.

Why the Microsoft – Nokia acquisition happened

Nokia and Microsoft just ended their joint press conference, in an effort to explain the acquisition the companies announced earlier today. As with any major announcement, especially with a brand like Nokia which invokes a lot of emotion, the reactions were predictably…. emotional. Risto Siilasma probably said it best, at the joint Nokia press conference in Finland – The acquisition is “Rationally perfect, emotionally complicated.” which we wholeheartedly agree with. But what drove the companies towards this deal? Why did Microsoft buy Nokia? What’s in it for both the companies? We try to explain with two points of views, read on.

Microsoft and Nokia, what does it mean?

By now, you’ve likely read about Nokia’s Devices and Services division being acquired in a deal by Microsoft. You’ve also likely read about the movement of CEO Stephen Elop amongst others back to Redmond and Microsoft. What has been less clear is the fallout likely to come from this deal as well as the reasoning behind this acquisition.

Microsoft agrees deal to buy Nokia Devices and Services Division

In a deal that would surprise noone in it’s happening but everyone in it’s timing, Microsoft will be acquiring Nokia’s Devices and services division in addition to licensing a significant portion of Nokia’s patents in addition to their mapping services. The deal in it’s entirety amounts to 5.4 Billion Euros paid in cash, 3.79 Billion for devices and services 1.65 Billion for the associated patents.

The transaction will see 32,000 Nokia employees transitioned over to Microsoft including 4,700 in Finland and 18,300 employed in manufacturing positions worldwide. In addition, a significant number of senior executives are expected to be transferring to positions within Microsoft, including Stephen Elop, Jo Harlow, Juha Putkiranta, Timo Toikkanen, and Chris Weber.

This is an absolutely monumental transaction and will go a long way towards shaping the smartphone landscape for years to come.  We will keep you updated with any details as we receive them.

Flickr for iPhone updated with new camera, live filters and more

Yahoo! has updated the Flickr app for iPhone with a new camera and photo filters. Yahoo! acquired GhostBird Software, creators of popular iOS photography apps KitCam, and the new features are result of it, created by GhostBird Software team. The update brings live inline filters and editing capabilities, Live Filters let you see how your photo looks while you take it. Digg Reader for Android released

Digg Reader for Android

Digg has released their official Android app on Google Play. This offers stories from the Digg homepage as well as Digg Reader on Android devices. This is the first Android release, so the app would be gradually improved with missing features such as a Show Only Unread Items view, text size and display mode options, and background updating, says the company. Xolo Play gets a new OTA update, improves performance

Xolo has announced that they have started rolling out a new over-the-air (OTA) update for the Xolo Play that improves the performance of the update. The Xolo Play (T1000) was launched last month, and we reviewed the device recently. It is the first phone from Xolo to be powered by a 1.5 GHz quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor. The graphics is taken care of 416 MHz 12 Core NVIDIA ULP GeForce GPU.  It runs on Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean), sadly the new update does not bring Android 4.2.

Real Racing 3 now available for BlackBerry 10

EA Mobile has released the Real Racing 3 for BlackBerry 10 finally. The racing game was released for Android, iPhone and iPad back in February. The games also got a new update last month that brought new cars, Time Trial Race and more. You don’t get these new features in BlackBerry though. Temple Run: Oz now available for Windows Phone 8

Temple Run: Oz from Imangi Studios and Disney/Pixar is now available for Windows Phone 8. The game was released for Android, iPhone and iPad in March. The Temple Run: Oz based on the Temple Run 2 and inspired by Oz the Great and Powerful movie that released earlier this year. This game would let you Play as Oz and outrun the shrieking flying baboons as you turn, jump and slide your way across the land. Evernote for Windows Phone has received a major update to version 4.0 that brings log of new features including a new multi-shot camera, speech-to-text capabilities, smart note titling, and better support for Windows Phone 8. The multi-shot camera  lets you take photos without exiting camera mode, new slideshows lets you swipe through to view images in a note. The speech-to-text automatically transcribes your speech to text, you can use this by pressing the speech bubble icon. The app now has auto title that uses  your location, the content of your note, and even a calendar event to give your note a useful title. Twitter has updated both the Android (v 4.1.6)and iPhone (v5.10) apps with a new conversation view. Now, Tweets that are part of a conversation are shown in chronological order. Up to three Tweets are shown in a sequence in the home timeline, once you tap a Tweet, you can see all the replies, including those from people you don’t follow.
