LG grabs Red Dot awards for G3’s UI, Smart Keyboard and Knock Code

LG Electronics has grabbed nine awards at the 2014 Red Dot awards in Communication Design category. This includes Best of the Best awards for LG G3’s graphic user interface (GUI), Smart Keyboard and Knock Code. LG also grabbed awards for webOS Smart+ TV platform for its new approach to smart TVs and intuitive user interface. The LG G Flex, the company’s first smartphone with a curved display got Best of the Best award earlier this year. BBM for Windows Phone out of beta, update brings bug fixes and performance improvements

BlackBerry launched BBM Beta for Windows Phone few weeks back for all the Windows Phone 8 users. Recently BlackBerry pushed a minor v1.01 update for the Windows Phone app that removes the beta tag and also brings bug fixes, performance improvements and speeds up the app load time. 20,000 units of Asus Zenfone 5 smartphones to be available on Flipkart from August 18th

Acer launched the Iconia A1-713 and the Iconia A1-830 tablets in India recently. Now the company has launched the Iconia One 7 (B1-730) in India, exclusively on Amazon.in. It was announced back in April and packs a 7-inch (1280 × 800 pixels) HD display, powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 with PowerVR SGX544 GPU and runs on Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS that is upgradeable to Android 4.4 (KitKat). Samsung acquires home automation company SmartThings

Samsung Electronics has acquired SmartThings, a home automation company that builds open platform for the Internet of Things (IoT). It will operate as an independent company within Samsung’s Open Innovation Center group . The team will remain the same and will relocate to a new headquarters in Palo Alto, CA, said CEO of SmartThings, Alex Hawkinson on their official blog. Xiaomi isn’t known just for the incredibly well priced phones it sells. Another aspect that has added value to the company’s popularity is the MIUI ROM.

MIUI started off an a ROM for the Mi Phone or the first phone from Xiaomi, back in 2011. However, the ROM got so popular that more than a 100 devices from various manufacturers (other than Xiaomi) gained official MIUI support.

FreakTab is a growing community of developers that focuses on development for the less fortunate devices, such as those coming from China.

Not only TV boxes, the FreakTab community have done some great work for tablets and other Android devices as well. A few devs from the very community recently came together to launch their own hardware – the Freakbox.
