Over 44 million smartphones shipped in 2013 in India – IDC

India’s smartphone market grew 181% year-over-year in 2013, with shipments of 44 million smartphones, compared to 16.2 million units in 2012, according to a recent report from International Data Corporation (IDC). Over 257 million mobile phones were shipped in 2013. The feature phone market grew just 16% YoY in Q4 13 and the overall mobile phone shipments in the quarter stood at just 67.83 million units, that includes 15.06 million smartphones. Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Samsung Galaxy S4: What has changed

The biggest expectation of the MWC 2014 had to be Samsung’s Unpacked 5 event where they were expected to announce the successor of Samsung Galaxy S4 and they did announce itSamsung Galaxy S5. While a lot of people weren’t convinced about the lack of design change from Samsung Galaxy S3 to Samsung Galaxy S4, even more people joined the skeptical lot as Samsung pulled a Samsung out of the hat and introduced the Samsung Galaxy S5 in a design and specs not so different from the predecessor – Galaxy S4.

FoneArena is live from Barcelona and we were there at Samsung’s really packed Unpacked event. After the unveiling, we were able to get a quick hands on with the device and in the short time, we compared it with the Samsung Galaxy S4. Samsung opens up Fingerprint Scanner for developers, unlike Apple

Samsung is fresh after announcing its latest flagship – Samsung Galaxy S5 at MWC 2014 day before yesterday. Samsung is still at MWC 2014 and is holding an event for the developers. At the event, Samsung has announced that it is planning to open up the fingerprint scanner on the Galaxy S5 for developers. For a company that follows the strategy of Apple, this is quite a surprising move.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Android 4.4 KitKat update now available in India

Samsung started rolling out the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) users in Russia last week, Indian users started receiving the update earlier this week. Samsung unveils Exynos 5 Octa 5422 and Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 chips

Samsung has unveiled its new Exynos 5 Octa chip, 5422 and its first Hexa-Core chip, Exynos 5 Hexa 5260 at the Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona. These chips are based on ARM big.LITTLE technology, similar to the Exynos 5410 and 5420 chips unveiled the last year, these also include Heterogeneous Multi-Processing that can run combination of up to eight or six cores, respectively, to provide optimum performance. Samsung Galaxy S5 also comes in 2.1 GHz Octa-Core variant [Updated]

Samsung unveiled the most expected Galaxy S5 smartphone at the MWC 2014 few hours back. The Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F) is powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AC) processor clocked at 2.45 GHz. A new infographic, comparing all the Galaxy S series devices on the Samsung blog reveals that the Galaxy S5 would also come in a Octa-Core variant clocked at 2.1GHz. This might be the Exynos Infinity processor that is expected to be unveiled during the MWC 2014 later this week. Samsung Galaxy S5 with 5.1-inch 1080p display, 16MP camera, Finger Scanner announced

Samsung has just announced the most expected Galaxy S5 smartphone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It has a 5.1-inch full HD (1920×1080 pixels) Super AMOLED display, powered by a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and runs on Android 4.4  (KitKat) with Samsung own UI on top. It has a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED Flash, 4K video recording, HDR (Rich tone), Selective Focus, Virtual Tour Shot and more new features and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera. Samsung claims that the phone has  world’s fastest auto focus speed up to 0.3 seconds. It has IP67 ratings for Dust and water Resistance.

Samsung Gear 2, Gear 2 Neo smartwatches with Tizen OS to go on sale in April

It wasn’t too long ago that Samsung announced its first generation Galaxy Gear smartwatch. Aimed at competing with the likes of Pebble and anticipated competition from Apple, the original Galaxy Gear was a relative failure because of its high price point, poor battery life and limited compatibility. Fast forward five months and Samsung is all set to show off its next gen Gear 2 smartwatch that eschews Android for the Korean company’s homegrown Tizen OS.

The new smartwatch will retail in two variants ie the Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo. The Galaxy branding has been dropped because of the transition from Android to Tizen. Specifications of the watch remain largely the same and include a 1GHz dual core processor, 4GB storage, 512MB RAM and a 1.63 inch (320 x 320 pixels) Super AMOLED touch screen. The watch also incorporates S Voice, a heart rate monitor, pedometer for health related applications. It also has IP67 certification for water, dust resistance. There were also rumors about Samsung unveiling two Galaxy Gear smartwatches at the event. Thanks to evleaks, now we know that these would be called Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 and Galaxy Gear 2 Neo. Samsung releases new “The Next Galaxy” teaser video, hints at the upcoming Galaxy S5

Mobile World Congress 2014(MWC 2014) is just a couple of days away and we are pretty sure that Samsung will unveil their next flagship smartphone – Samsung Galaxy S5, at the unpacked event on February 24th. Samsung has started rolling out the Android 4.4 (KitKat) update for the Galaxy S4 (GT-I9500) users starting from Russia, according to SamMobile. The 3G Exynos variant has started getting the KitKat update before LTE Snapdragon variant, even though a build already leaked.
