Samsung announces Gear Fit, a fitness band to help you be fit


At the MWC 2014 Unpacked 5 event in Barcelona, Samsung has just announced the company’s latest flagship – Samsung Galaxy S5 and alongside the not so impressive Galaxy S5, it has also unveiled its fitness band – Gear Fit in addition to the already existing two smartwatches – Gear 2 and Gear Neo.

The Samsung Gear Fit is different from the Samsung Gear 2 and Samsung Gear Neo in terms of dimensions and usability. The Gear Fit is relatively slimmer and comes with a curved Super AMOLED display. The Gear Fit comes with a 1.84inch display sporting a resolution of 432×128 pixels. The fitness band is a IP67 certified dust and water resistant device. It weighs just 27g and measures 23.4 x 57.4 x 11.95 mm.

There is a 210mAh battery which is expected to make the device last for 3-4 days of typical usage. The Gear Fit comes with various sensors like Accelerometer, Gyro, Heart Rate to keep track of your fitness. The Gear Fit can also be used as a stand alone device unlike the original Galaxy Gear smartwatch.

In response, our Gear product portfolio continues to expand with unique devices for a wide range of lifestyles, including the new Gear Fit designed to help those consumers striving to live more fit and active lives without sacrificing their own personal style or their ability to stay connected on the go.”

Samsung Gear Fit will come with changeable straps in Black, Orange and Mocha Grey. There is no information on pricing yet and the device is expected to be available by April.
