ZTE signs patent agreement with Microsoft for Android and Chrome devices

ZTE, popular Chinese smartphone and tablet manufacturer has announced that they have signed a patent licensing agreement with Microsot that covers ZTE devices running on Android and Chrome OS Platform, according to a recent report from Reuters. Microsoft had already signed agreement with others Android OEMs such as  HTC, Samsung, LG and Acer and 15 others. Microsoft doesn’t have any deal with another popular Chinese Smartphone maker Huawei. Bharti and Reliance Jio sign agreement for international data connectivity

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel today announced that they have a signed an Indefeasible Right to Use (IRU) agreement that will let Reliance use Bharti’s i2i submarine cable connecting India and Singapore. The cable consists of eight fibre pairs and uses Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) to provide bandwidth ranging in multiple terabits.

Zinio to launch on Windows Phone as a Lumia exclusive

Zinio, the popular magazine reading application, has announced its intentions to launch on the Windows Phone 8 platform. The company declared that the application will be made available exclusively to Nokia’s Lumia range of Windows Phone handsets at launch.

HDFC Bank launches mobile banking app for Windows Phone

The official app from HDFC Bank for Windows Phone just went live on the Windows Phone store. The app looks pretty similar to applications on other platforms from the bank.You can transfer money even to other bank accounts through NEFT.  You can pay your bills and manage your account like with any regular mobile banking app. You can even manage  your demat account, mutual funds and credit card. Google has no plans to build Windows 8, WP8 apps

Hoping to use an official Gmail or Youtube app on your brand new Windows Phone device ? You might be out of luck as the company is not too keen on bringing its products to Microsoft’s mobile offering.

Windows Phone 7.8 update coming in ‘early 2013’

Microsoft just announced that the long awaited Windows Phone 7.8 update for existing handsets will roll out only in 2013. The most obvious part of the update is the new homescreen which will feature the same resizable live tiles as on Windows Phone 8 running smartphones.

Apollo Plus update rumored to bring improved WiFi, other fixes to Windows Phone 8

Rumors have surfaced that Microsoft plans to detail its next update for Windows Phone 8 at the Mobile World Congress in February. The update is expected to bring a lot of bug fixes alongside new features. The Verge suggests that Microsoft will be bringing bug fixes related to audio issues that some  users have been facing. We’re also expecting to see persistent WiFi capabilities introduced.

Windows Phone 8 Review

Back in 2010 when Microsoft introduced its brand new take on the smartphone dubbed Windows Phone, it was a brand new take on how a smartphone should work. Gone was the desktop-inspired UI and the inherent sluggishness, dependence on stylus input. The new and improved OS was designed ground up for a more modern world but inside was ticking the same core which brought along with it several limitations. Today we have yet another reboot but this time with a brand new core while retaining the best of and improving on the rest of the experience.

Microsoft unveils Windows Phone 8

Microsoft has officially unveiled the Windows Phone 8 at an event in San Francisco as they announced earlier this month. They announced the Windows Phone 8 back in June, but at the yesterday’s launch event they demoed several features including new features such as Kid’s Corner, Rooms in People’s Hub and automatic image uploads from the phone’s camera. The Nokia Lumia 920 gets a price and launch date in Finland

Microsoft is going to show off Windows Phone 8 later today at an event in California. One of the first devices to hit the market that’ll run that OS will be Nokia’s flagship Lumia 920. It’s the first smartphone to feature optical image stabilization, which should deliver ultra high quality blur free photos. It’s also one of the first devices to ship with a touch screen that works even when you have gloves on, something that’s important in Nokia’s home country of Finland. Speaking about Finland, one of the largest consumer electronic store chains in the country, Verkkokauppa, has just announced when they’ll start selling the Lumia 920. According to their weekly circular, there’s going to be a launch event on November 22nd at 00:01. It’ll cost 599 Euros, which is the same price that they’ll also be selling HTC’s Windows Phone 8X. There are now over 125,000 Windows Phone apps, growth seems to be slowing down

The guys over at All About Windows Phone are reporting that the number of applications in the Windows Phone Marketplace has surpassed 125,000. They keep track of this data using a tracking service that was developed in-house. Here are the specific numbers you should know: It took 20 months for 126,250 apps to be published. That’s faster than Android, which hit the same number in 26 months, but slower than iOS, which took 18.5 months. A total of 113,000+ apps are actually available for download, meaning some apps are either embargoed or have been pulled. Back in May, 8% of the apps in the UK Marketplace had 5 or more ratings. Today that number has dropped to 7.8%. In the US it’s the opposite, with 12% of apps getting 5 or more ratings in May, but now it’s 13.8%. How many developers have submitted apps to the Marketplace?
