Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE announced, priced at $679 for the 64 GB version
After confirming the presence of a mobile-enabled version in the works when launching the Surface 2, the Redmond giant has finally taken the wraps off Microsoft Surface 2 with LTE 4G on the AT&T network, retailing at a price of 679$ for the 64 GB version. The Surface was Microsoft’s first play as a PC hardware company. The first product, called Surface RT, was largely a flop due to poor usability and performance, and even took a write down in the company’s earnings. Surface 2, the successor, was launched almost an year later, with good reviews and better reception from consumers, but still not as popular as Microsoft would like. Touted as a portable productive machine, the Surface 2 in its initial variants lacked a LTE chip for mobile data, which was apparently a highly requested feature, and hence we are seeing it now, in the form of the slightly modified LTE variant of the Surface 2.

Reliance Jio ties up with Viom Networks to share telecom tower infrastructure
Reliance Jio Infocomm, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) has entered into a pan-India tower infrastructure sharing agreement with Viom Networks, a joint venture of Tata Teleservices and SREI Infrastructure to use the latter’s telecom infrastructure with a footprint of over 42,000 telecom towers for their 4G roll out. Microsoft launches Office Lens document scanning app for Windows Phone
Microsoft made OneNote for Windows free and launched its first Mac client recently. It also introduced Office Lens for Windows Phone that scans your documents and save it as editable format in OneNote. This uses OneNote’s cloud-based optical character-recognition (OCR) software and the new OneNote Service API to make it a editable text. It also trims, enhances and makes pictures readable. OneNote for Windows goes free, Mac client and new APIs introduced
OneNote, the note taking application that lives inside the office suite has now been unbundled on Windows and made free for the desktop, like it has been on other platforms and even the Windows Store. Talking of platforms, Microsoft has also just introduced OneNote for Mac, which has been a long standing request from Office for Mac users. The client will work just like the Windows client, with access to the OneDrive cloud, the familiar arrangement of notebooks and all the tools OneNote is known for. Apart from this, Microsoft has also opened up new APIs for OneNote, with which one can develop apps supporting the service and the cloud.

LG G Pro 2 global roll out begins starting from Asia
LG unveiled the G Pro 2, successor of the G Pro ahead of Mobile World Congress last month. It went on sale in Korea at the end of February, even before it was showcased at the MWC. The company today announced that it has started selling the smartphones in Asian markets including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Philippine, Vietnam and Indonesia. It was showcased at the LG Tech Show 2014 event in India earlier this month, but the company did not reveal the launch date of the yet. Angry Birds Epic arrives on Apple App Store in few countries
Last week, Rovio teased that they were introducing an Angry Birds themed RPG game and that it would be called Angry Birds Epic. Today, the game has gone live in App stores of countries like New Zealand, Australia and Canada. This is just a soft release and when the game is ready, it will be available for everybody across Apple App Store, Google Play Store and Microsoft Windows Store.

Facebook Messenger for Android and iPhone gets free voice calling in India
Facebook Messenger for iPhone got free voice calling feature in the US and Canada back in February 2013. It rolled out for Android users in Canada in March, it rolled out in the US and in 24 countries in April last year. You can make calls only to Facebook Messenger users on iPhone and Android over 3G or WiFi. It is not available for Facebook Messenger for Windows Phone that was launch recently. Nokia’s appeal over asset transfer to Microsoft rejected by Supreme Court of India
India’s supreme court asked Nokia to provide guarantee of 35 billion rupees ($572.5 million) in an escrow account before it is allowed to transfer its Chennai plant and other assets in the country to Microsoft reports Reuters. This is how Whatsapp Calls will supposedly look like
At the MWC 2014 earlier this year, Whatsapp were present and their CEO was just fresh from the 19 billion USD deal with Facebook. At the event, Whatsapp discussed their post Facebook acquisition plans and they also mentioned that they will be introducing VoIP calls in Q2 2014. According to an Italian blog, they were able to get their hands on the latest Whatsapp app with support for voice calls.
